Duncan wins MVP award for second straight year

i wouldnt be surprised if they vote someone less worthy next year, but a fan favorite to win just to make up for the past 2 years

i think kobe got cheated (kg is deserving though also). he wont have big rebound or block numbers also because he's not as tall as kg and he has shaq to handle that business.

edit: btw, kobe's numbers BLOW duncan outta the water.

edit02: k, not exactly BLOW him out, but he does have some better looking numbers.

KG beats him in rebounds by alot, and in blocks which is cancelled out by kobes steals.
KG's FG percentage is 5% better which is significant since most players are in that 10-15% range of 37-52%.
And without Shaq, where were the lakers? (Maybe not even in the playoffs)
Kobe is not a leader, at least not yet..
KG on the other hand has no Shaq or Kobe level teamate to help him and they still finished 4th in the league.
T-Mac was the best scorer and thats it. KG beats him too.
KG is the MVP.
Kidd was the MVP last year.
Why are these people who vote so dumb? It's not like choosing Duncan helps ratings..

They want Duncan to be the NEXT MJ. they want someone controllable, someone with a GOOD rep. someone WHITE people can like, like MJ.

Duncan is PERFECT for that role. 2 yrs ago i really believed that Stern had chosen Kobe for that role but it hasn't worked out. i think Duncan is the Chosen one.

Duncan is one of those players that mean lottery land for the team without him and he is a serious candidate every year.

Kobe will not win an MVP as long as he has Shaq (ala Scottie Pippen and MJ). Shaq is TOO DOMINANT for anyone to take Kobe. Case in point, at the beginning of the season, when the Lakers were Shaqless, the Kobe-led Lakers SUCKED. This sealed his MVP fate.

Garnett is also deserving and I thought he would win it.

J-Kidd is also a candidate but the Nets team is stronger than the others due to Jefferson and Martin and they play in a weaker conference.

Philly would have made the playoffs w/o AI due to coaching and being in the Leastern Conference.

McGrady does alot but he wasn't able to keep Orlando in the playoff hunt by himself. After they traded Miler, they picked up momentum because of the new players (Gooden and someone else whose name I don't remember right now). Prior to the trade, I think they were a few games back or in jeopardy of falling out of the playoff race.

I can't argue with Duncan as MVP, but since he has already won it, it should have fallen to KG.

Garnett has taken the the wolves to the playoffs the last 7 years !!! it's a shame they got eliminated in the first round. Which also means, no lottery picks for the wolves. Also, the wolves are a small market team, they can't spend the cash =( He needs 1 more all-star to go deep ..

I see and hear this argument SOOO much and it always pisses me off.

You can't just take Shaq out and say Kobe sux. take shaqs salary out of ANY LINEUP in the NBA and that team will suffer. in this day of Salary caps its not just about how will kobe do with Shaq out.

Take Shaq out and replace him with equivalent in salary THEN see how kobe does. any thing else is a ludicrous conclusion.

I didn't say that Kobe sucked. I said that when he played without Shaq, the TEAM sucked. If Kobe were to miss the same amount of games, then lets see how the Lakers do. Wait, this did happen a season or two ago. The Kobe-less Lakers played ball and still won the majority of their games while being led by Shaq. Now this is unfair because the Lakers did have a better team a couple of years ago (at least the players were a bit younger), but the perception is still there. Now as far as salary, there is a reason that the Lakers pay Shaq that much - he is worth every penny. Take Kobe's salary and replace it with talent, and the Lakers still contend and win. I'm not too sure about it the other way (as far as winning the title).

Hmmm... It is true lakers weren't so hot at the beginning of the year w/o shaq, but for half of the season they weren't so hot either w/ shaq in the lineup. Then after the all star break something happened, and i think it was Kobe who sparked something crazy in the lakers w/ his 30pt+ avg Febraury. But yet again it comes down to the kobe v shaq on the lakers debate, arguments can go either way... no winners here
