I finally finished the first movie. Not too impressed. It's been a LONG time since I read Dune, and it seems like they've followed the basics of the story...but with a lot of "artistic license."
Messiah is coming (maybe):
lots of down time on top of that tower crane?I finally finished the first movie. Not too impressed. It's been a LONG time since I read Dune, and it seems like they've followed the basics of the story...but with a lot of "artistic license."

Agreed seemed like too many things just weren't covered...or not well enough.Should have made a trilogy of the first book rather than miss so much stuff in the first part of Dune.
Next ad for Paqui one chip challenge should be a tie in with Dune...
New Kwisatz Haderach edition chip, it'll let you see the future!
Off-topic, but R.A. Salvatore really pissed me off with that crap. Talk about taking liberties with one of the most popular and long-lasting characters in the SW universe. It was pointless and entirely unnecessary......at least they killed chewbacca by throwing a moon at him

I read a lot of his Forgotten Realms novels when I was younger, but that SW: Vector Prime was his last book that I purchased. There won't be more.
On-topic: I liked the (new) first Dune film but agree that it was missing a lot, and felt sterile and impersonal. I'm still looking forward to the second film though, for the visuals if nothing else. I know the story already so I can always fill in holes from memory.
...I mean, I love the Mandalorian, but if we're being honest, it's kinda boring. And Book Of Fett is slow AND boring (not hating!)...it felt like a chore getting through some of the episodes, even though I enjoyed the visuals & liked the story (I'd like to see it recut into a movie or maybe a 4-part mini-series!). But I get it, they wanted fresh stories with (mostly) new characters, wanted to make toys & rides, etc.
Some might call me a heretic, but I'm liking Ahsoka far better than either Mando or Book of Boba. Especially Boba, that was a disappointment to me. It doesn't hurt that I was already a fan of Rosario Dawson! Also: Thrawn.
Ahsoka has a bit darker story and atmosphere IMHO.
it's as if disney doesnt know how to tell a story anymore.Eh first two EPS of Ahsoka didn't really get things going for me. Acting/pacing was way too slow and deliberate like the whole thing was taking itself way too seriously.
Doing the typical Disney universe thing where I need to watch Rebels and read a book and watch some shorts and see some other series before I understand the starting points for some of these characters.
Mandalorian S1 was great because it was really something fresh in the SW universe: just a simple man trying to make his way in the universe.
Now by S3 it's all disneyfied again with callbacks and flash forwards and intertwined threads and it's more about Bo Katan than Boba Fett like god damn can't we just have a clean narrative Disney?!

SW eps VII - IX anyone?
