While at Target for another reason today, I picked up the Dune Special Edition 3 disk DVD Direcor's Cut at Target for $10.00. This is the SciFi version, not the horrid, made for theater, original version. I haven't had the chance to sit down and watch it yet, but it HAS to be better than the original.

Could you post the UPC?

darn - spent 15' looking and looking. couldn't even find a "spot" where it would be if they had it.......wasn't on the big shelf, nor any of the little "square" displays....

I'll second the request for the UPC - maybe I'll call up some other local Target's and see if they have it in stock......

===> Eh, NM...no one in the area seems to have it...shucks!

WoW! I didn't expect this post to elicit such a response!

The UPC is:

0 12236-12529 7

Thanks for pointing out Children of Dune - I didn't know it had been made.

Most folks I know who read the book liked Lynch's version -> if you don't know the story, Lynch's version's a bit disjointed and hard to follow.

Bump in homage to a great series/story line.

Nice deal, do wish it were on the Lynch version. Actually I would love to get the "other" Lynch version which has painted backgrounds and some of the missing scenes. Mostly want it for the missing scenes which includes Paul's first fight.

As for which is better, if you discount the "guns" from the first movie it was more accurate in many ways. The rain at the end was not Lynch's idea either.

omg, some of you guys think the sci fi series is good? i had to change the channel after enduring five minutes of bad acting and visual effects.

I actually found Children Of Dune mini series to be superior to the Dune mini series. Everyone was pretty much recast, with the exception of the main character.

what are you talking about? Alec Newman played Muad'Dib in both Dune and Chidren of Dune

Original movie was so-so. I liked Dune but Children of Dune was superior. The only beef I had was some of the effects could have been better. I understand there are constraints as this is only a made for TV mini-series so things are forgivable. One of the worse things are the terrible costume designs. Just plain...I don't even know how to describe some of the wierd things they're wearing. The other major concern is a bit of cheese in the acting but for the most part I found the acting decent. Nothing Emmy winning but not too bad.

I liked both the movie and the series. The series seemed sortof, uh, colorful, for lack of a better term. I preferred the darker style of the movie.

I remember seeing the original at the theater when opened... it was destined to be panned.. how many movies hand out a 'glossary of terms' to the viewers. I loved it, but the typical moviegoer was probably saying "WTF?"

I would love to see them come out with the extended Lynch version myself. Although the Sci-Fi channel version is much more true to the novels, they just didn't do it for me. The casting in Lynch's version is much better--definitely one of my favorite sci-fi flicks and a cult classic. There are a TON of songs out there with samples/lines taken from the movie.

i have to agree the original had better casting, set and costume design, as well as a better mood for the story..

the freman suits in the series one looked weird i liked the original movie ones better....thats one of the major reasons i couldnt get into the series the weird colorful costumes in the series just looked ridiculous

i also liked the voice overs in the original movie

It'd have been interesting if Giger's designs were used. Some of the fetishistic slickness seemed to show in Lynch's take, but it wasn't very pronounced.
