Ended up picking up the game and trying it out. Most of the criticism here is pretty much spot on.

Camera and controls - bad. Only 2 camera distances. And neither zoom out far enough. I was constantly getting attacked by ranged mobs off camera. Plus, not being able to click on the screen to move was a bit frustrating with this type of game. And I had a habit of becoming semi stuck on terrain, until I could figure out the exact direction to run backwards in to get off whatever had me snagged.

These types of rpg's rarely have what i'd consider exceptional stories. And, this one was pretty typical. Enough of one to get the game started, but nothing really past that.

I actually played as the gun witch character, the one most agree is the useless character. I don't have anything really to compare it against, but i didn't find it that bad, really. Rifles did alot more damage than the pistols, but you die quickly using the rifles, since everything runs at you immediately to get in melee range. I'd only get a few shots off with the rifle and then have to pull out the pistols.

Of course, having said all that, I'm only a few hours into the game. I still only have a choice of 1 party member, the elemental. Perhaps the game changes majorly in some way after this. Still considering if I want to spend more time with the game or not right now.

A few hours in? The game is no more than 15 hours - it is mercifully short.

Since you have a ranged character, perhaps you need a mele character. i played mele and had the magic companion to heal my character when he died - which was pretty often in boss fights - all you do is keep from dying and your companion takes care of the boss - simple formula and SO UNLIKE other action-RPGs (to say nothing like NWN2 where you can micro-manage.

It reminds me of an even shallower Two Worlds. Pretty to look at and tolerable to play. i'd recommend that you press on. It is a real kick getting the weapons and armor upgrade and watch your companion get all the great magic spells.

It doesn't get worse. i finished it and considered it moderately entertaining (considering i got it for review and i did not pay for it)

I'm done with Torchlight and finally starting to get over my Borderlands addiction, so I'm thinking about what to play next.

DS3 is down to $20 at Amazon this week. Anyone think it's worth that, or should I hold out for $10 or less in a crazy Steam sale?

It has a demo if that would help you decide.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit (never played the original DS games for what that's worth). I got it for $30 on launch and felt it was well worth it, so if you like the demo I'd say $20 is good.
