Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach Review + Screens

Here's a public review for D&D Online from GameDaily. They rated it 4.5/5 but from the other thread sounds like it's not too hot. So I guess if you're sick of WoW try this out otherwise keep on leveling your 4th WoW character. Comes out either yesterday or next week, you'll have to ask retailers. I'm still torn on whether to jump on this game or not :|

I must have beta'd a different game than that reviewer.

Reading the review... there isn't much different from my experienced... it's just i wasn't as impressed as the reviewer. Things like crowded taverns seem to excite the author, but for me, they were nothing but lag fest.. especially since there's nothing to do in taverns but talk to a couple of NPCs!

I thought character appearance customization sucked ass. And combat was annoying... i hated needing to block and attack. Perhaps i just didn't give it enough time to get use to it. Too bad there's a subscription on this, otherwise i would have given it another chance. I probably will when they have a trial version.

The game is really good but hard for most people to adjust. They want to run in like EQ or WoW but it plays entirely different. You need to carry different weapons for different scenarios, you run into a rust monster weilding your best sword and you no longer have a weapon. Slimes can't be killed without clubs. Blocking and manually swinging become a benefit. You CAN gimp your character. Mana is limited! All of these things turn people away before they really get into the game. Which is good because what it leaves behind is people who truely understand the game (for the most part). Unlike WoW, where you will get those level 60s who don't even know how to group.

I enjoyed it more the last time I played it. I think that you really have to choose carefully in how you customize your character. I don't know why they even bothered to put many of the feats or skills in the game that they did. Maybe they will come in handy later, but right now it seems like there are only a few reasonable builds (aside from stat customizations).

I thought that I made a horrible choice neglecting Weapon Finesse in my rogue, but it turns out they can't get it, so that means that rogues just plain suck right now. Maybe they become useful later.

If this game doesn't have the clueless level 60's a la WoW then that might be incentive enough to try it out. I can't stand people who think that since they hit level 60 they have any idea how to play WoW. Soooo many horrible max level players.

I got my ranger to 4 today. Thought i can use spells finally, then i realize, oh 11 points in wisdom = you no get spell points.
Becoming more dissapointing by the day

I like EQ2 and all, but I do not think the game deserved a 4.5/5
