Fucking sucks, rip off, crappy doughnuts and they cant even spell DOUGHnuts correctly in their name. I tried them for the first time a little while ago, 2 cinnamon rolls, one for me one for a friend, small, not enough cinnamon and over priced. Today, decided to give them another shot, ordered some munchkins, wanted a even dozen, nope, you can choose 5, 10 or 15. I went for 10 and a milk, total $5.12, they stated like they were day old, so FUCK them. I will stick with mom and pop owned shops, rant over.

Many moons ago, they were good when they made the donuts in the store. Then they started having them made in a regional shop and sent to the stores. Then they started to sell them in gas stations, which is the kiss of death. Also, I've tried their dark roast, and it really sucks. But then all fast food sucks, so what's the big deal?

Yeah they are like an absolute last resort for me. A dozen donuts is over $10. And they aren't even good donuts. I think they are making them at a central warehouse and trucking them in each morning. They all just taste the same and are bland lifeless lumps.

Local shops completely destroy them in both cost and flavor.

This exactly. They used to be sooooooo freaking good when they were fresh. Back when this dude was in charge:

I do love their black coffee though still.

They do kinda suck now, though it seems like not that long ago that they were at least decent. I need to find a good shop around here, there's actually one in walking distance but they don't make any cake donuts, which is a dealbreaker.

They used to be pretty good. Their donuts taste like HFCS now.

They are mass produced and frozen in at least one manufacturing facility in the US.

In the past, DD was pretty good. I think doughnuts/donuts took a hit when that whole "no trans fat" movement came through. I'll occasionally eat them, but I've figured out which donut shops (mom & pop stores) are hella better in my city.

My all-time fave is in Austin (Texas)...

Gourdough's "Flying Pig" donut (topped with housemade maple icing with grilled bacon).

2nd fave is Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, Oregon.

I think the people who like Dunkin are people who weren't blessed to be in an area with a local mom and pop doughnut shop. Now, hipsters have taken over and make "gourmet" doughnuts and charge like $4 each. No thanks.

I finished the thread title with that before even opening.

I'd take Dunkin over Tim Horton's though if the two were side-by-side.
Otherwise: Krispy Kreme.

when i was a kid i used to love dunkin'... i'd take a glazed donut and microwave it on high for a full minute. this kind of makes it fry internally - it becomes almost rock hard. then i would slice it into ~1/4" sections and eat them like chips.

nowadays it's local shops or nothing.

Same with KrispyKreme. I can only assume they were good when they were made in house, and that's what people remember, cause they aren't worth a shit now. Haven't had DD in decades, so I dunno about them.

There's 1 KK still around here and they still make them fresh in-house. They are awesome. Complete sugar-bombs, but damn... getting a warm one fresh off the oil conveyor belt (they give you one to eat while you order)... just awesome.

Though I still prefer a local bakery by our house over everything.

That threw me off when I went to the place for the first time.

"I don't think that's mine, I haven't ordered anything yet."

Then I saw that they did that for everyone.
Interesting marketing strategy. I guess the cost of materials is also very low.

Love Dunkin' for coffee. No, it's not the best and it's not the cheapest, either, but it's still "good enough" for a national chain. Never was that into them for their donuts, but then again I don't really eat donuts anymore or was ever a big donut guy.

Almost all of them still produced simple glazed in house. The rest of them though I don't believe are made on site.

Here, they used to have a distro center, but various factors, among them, slower sales and not being able to get them fresh off the line, made them revert back to in store.
