Here, they used to have a distro center, but various factors, among them, slower sales and not being able to get them fresh off the line, made them revert back to in store.

Maybe they're better now around here. When I had them, they were typical shipped garbage, and I haven't been back.

I'd take Dunkin over Tim Horton's though if the two were side-by-side.
Otherwise: Krispy Kreme.

No KK close to me or on the way to clients, BUT, they really are nothing to write home about either. The only doughnut from them I actually like are the glazed when they are right out of the line HOT, good little treat, but too small for the price. So KK, slightly better than DD, mom and pop shops from now on.

If DD now considers themselves as a beverage company then someone just needs to hire someone like Fred to redo the commercials. DD can't complain since they are beverage company, not a doughnut company.

With that said, maybe one of the reasons that DD moved to being a bevrage company is because of all you asshates out there buying something other than doughnuts. Had you just bought the doughnuts we wouldn't be in the situation we're in now.

Has anyone tried their breakfast sammiches? The Big N Toasty doesn't look too bad.

I'm not any sort of food snob but Doughnuts are one of the things that are just so much better fresh, it's not even close. The national chains got shut down in my home town a while back, they could never compete with the local shops.

Yea donuts like breads and French fries are some of those things that have to be eaten fresh or they taste like crap.

all we have a DD. I like them on occasion but damn they are far to expensive for some tiny doughnuts.

Yes you NEED to eat them fresh.

I was just bitching about DD too a few weeks ago.
And once upon a time, they were pretty good back in the 1970's.
Then they all went away, and two years ago they came back.
Stale donuts, runny icing, crappy taste, awful.
And how can a fresh baked Donut taste stale?

They are about equal to Walmart donuts, which taste like crap as well.
I swear Walmart uses sawdust in their baked goods.
And DD are not any better.
The old mom and pop donut shops have nothing to fear.
And will always have the best donuts out there.

I give this new surge in DD outlets about another year, then they will once again start closing up shop and disappearing.

I used to get the sausage/egg/cheese on toasted croissant when I was a kid. Also, if you're gonna overpay for chain coffee, you go to starbucks. Besides having better coffee, the workers there at least try to be engaging/friendly. DD not so much. :sneaky:

Every DD i been too had people from another country working there, they all have a bad attitude. Yep, the donuts suck and the sandwiches they now make are even worse. It's all pre-made crap. I rather go to Wava then DD anyday.

As others have said:

Their coffee is weak and their donuts taste like they are at least one day old. Also they are really expensive. Also their service sucks. Not a fan.

Yeah they are like an absolute last resort for me. A dozen donuts is over $10. And they aren't even good donuts. I think they are making them at a central warehouse and trucking them in each morning. They all just taste the same and are bland lifeless lumps.

Local shops completely destroy them in both cost and flavor.

Yup, about 2 years ago I had a hankering for one of those huge coffee-rolls so I walked in only to be told they had sold out. But it's 8:30AM I told her, why are more not being made?, then I found out that everything gets made in Orlando (70mi away) and shipped to the stores. How fucking moronic was that idea, some bean-counters conjured up the labor-cost savings vs paying people at the locations to make them so that's what they did. Now they can go and count the $$ lost due to pissed-off FORMER customers, I buy donuts from a Mom+Pop operation that has 2 stores locally and the quality is 10X better. If the store gets hit hard they actually make more donuts!, imagine that.

I like DD's sandwiches, coffee, and unsweetened iced tea, but that's about it.

usually stop in every morning on my way to work for a large unsweetened ice tea in the summer, and occasionally an egg/cheese/croissant sandwich.

Does DD still make their egg croissant sandwich by cracking open the egg, placing it in a styrofoam container, and then cooking it in a microwave? I watched that and gagged.

Omg .... I want one!

They're pretty tasty!

Because they don't have any pre-made donuts, you gotta wait 10 or so minutes after you place an order (they have 25+ different flavors to choose from). The donut is hot and fresh.

I'm pretty sure it's just a McDonalds-esque precooked egg patty that they just toss in an oven to reheat.

they definitely don't use a microwave that I've ever seen, though.

Many moons ago, they were good when they made the donuts in the store. Then they started having them made in a regional shop and sent to the stores. Then they started to sell them in gas stations, which is the kiss of death. Also, I've tried their dark roast, and it really sucks. But then all fast food sucks, so what's the big deal?

This. When I was a kid they were made on-site, then the big store made them and sent them to the small stores in the area, then they were made somewhere else and shipped in by truck

DD quality is highly regional. It tastes different in different areas.

Gourdoughs is the same doughnut with different toppings.

I love Shipley's yeast filled doughnuts. They're like little delicate pouches used to hold in the different fillings. Unfortunately the cream is just chemicals.

Voodoo Doughnut is gimmicky, their doughnuts are ok, nothing special.

Doughnut Plant in NYC is king of doughnuts. They're "life changing".
