Here's where I'll be heading when the kids get up and out of bed. One of the best (if not *THE* best) glazed donuts I've ever had.

When I was a kid there were 3 stores, one family, that made fresh bagels. The original store had brick ovens and used wood that fueled the ovens. It was fun to watch the process. Then you'd get your dozen bagels. Some were still hot coming out of the oven. Ya, bagels can win, but it depends on the store.

I have, but now a days, I get a turkey sammich on a super purist bagel. That is garlic, onions and poppy seeds.

If you're in Portland,OR..try Blue Star Donuts.

Kinda expensive(about $30/dozen.)..but so delicious.

Made fresh daily.

While certainly decent, IMHO Blue Star donuts aren't worth the hefty price they charge.

And anyway, Voodoo Doughnuts is the place that makes Portland's best known donuts.

And DD is to donuts as McDonalds is to hamburgers.

And as many others have observed, the small, local mom-and-pop shops almost always make the best donuts.

$30 is more than kinda expensive for a dozen donuts. Holy crap

wth? I would never even bother tasting that. That's ~10x worse than charging $14 for a bowl of ramen.

No KK close to me or on the way to clients, BUT, they really are nothing to write home about either. The only doughnut from them I actually like are the glazed when they are right out of the line HOT, good little treat, but too small for the price. So KK, slightly better than DD, mom and pop shops from now on.

Go to KK at 3am, drunk off your ass, watch your dozen donuts come off the line from under the sugar waterfall, toothpicked off the line by your server, and straight into your mouth.

I always go to DD for either the coffee, or the attached Baskin Robins which has some good flavors for ice cream. I can't remember the last time I got a doughnut from there.

Voodoo pales in comparison to Blue Star. If you're of the belief that Voodoo > *, you have poor taste and don't deserve to live on this planet.

I'd take Dunkin over Tim Horton's though if the two were side-by-side.
Otherwise: Krispy Kreme.

DD is definitely better then Timmy Ho's. But yeah, local shops are definitely the best. We had a store near us with a killer bakery but they closed .

There's a local place I still want to visit. Their hours are wacky though: 5am-noon.
I did make a special trip there once at 10am but they were closed already.

One of the managers at work would occasionally bring in the huge doughnuts from that place. I guess you have to get there right at 5am??
