That just made me laugh. A coupon code to get 10% off another coupon to get a further discount off something else. Classic!

is this the version that causes brownouts as it prints?

I bought this for my mother (posted here a couple weeks ago $99@BestBuy) and had no such problems. Note that ALL laser printers can draw in a huge amount of power when first warming up. That's why you don't plug laser printers into battery backups. I know a couple people mentioned getting brownouts in the Newegg reviews, but the thing is that cheap laser printers like this will tend to attract first-time buyers of laser printers who are not aware of their power demands.

Surge Protection Issues With Laser Printers
Laser printers use a heating cycle that constantly repeats, meaning that every minute or so it draws a current that ranges from a few volts up to a large spike before it returns to normal levels
...
The energy drawn on by the printer will cause a brownout effect

What's the difference between this and the 2170W I got almost 3 years ago(will be 3yrs in May) for $50?
Does this use the same drum/toner as the 2170W?

***EDIT***
I see this has a "D" in front of the W...
So besides duplex, what else is different?

This is a good deal for anyone that doesn't have a laser printer yet. Not sure why people are still using inkjet printers these days.
For me it's not, because I have the 2170W version from 3 years ago and I'm still on my starter toner! I bought 2 extra high yield toners for $22 each around the same time I bought the printer and they're still boxed up underneath it.
If the toners will be compatible, I'll ask my cousin's family if they want.

The toners for the 2170W are not compatible with the 2270DW. This is likely one of the reasons they released it. with the 2170 there was the tape trick for toner and very cheap compatibles.

The tape trick is not known to work with this version and currently there are only OEM toners for sale. Im sure that will change as it becomes more popular. The 2270 is a little faster and also has built in WIFI and a duplexer.

I picked it up for $79 from the egg and im fine with that price. I can't wait to retire my HP Officejet 8000, AKA the printer from hell.

Surge Protection Issues With Laser Printers

Wow. Thanks for the article. I didn't know anything about that.

I saw the brownout effect on my Brother 2070N laser printer, but unfortunately, it was after the return period. It would cause that effect on all devices (surge/no surge, UPS/no UPS) that was connected on the same outlet pair. I didn't realize that was a known issue.

Plus, it was a networked printer, so I needed to connect it to a switch. All of my switches (except one SMC gigabit switch) would cycle power whenever the laser printer fired up from sleep mode.

Absolutely.

I'm not sure if the Staples rep at 1-800-STAPLES would, but I've never had any problems using eJunkie coupons on their website.

How do you do a price match on the internet?

What am I missing here?

This deal needs a price match and coupon, right?

It's an Internet link to Staples. Internet Staples to Internet Newegg.

Correct - call up & pricematch, get a coupon and use that. Nice little deal. Can't believe duplex B&W lasers are so cheap!

Cheap and color?
Laser is cheaper, higher quality(B&W), and more effective on a cost/page basis.

Buying a new Inkjet printer every time with the starter ink is cheaper than paying $20-30 for inkjet cartridges that is not effective on a cost/page basis or will eventually expire and be unusable.

Color?
Heh...If I want that I'll go to Walgreens, CVS, etc...where it's more cost effective and will produce a better results than my laser.
I haven't needed to do that though.

There was a time when the word "laser" used to be associated with expensive 10 years ago...Now is not the case. $50-60 is not too much for a laser IMO. Fry's even does the $20 deal on the HL-2140 laser once in a while, and Staples does the $20 Samsung one very often so no one should complain much about cost.

I know. I was suggesting that as a reason for others. For instance my aunt used to insist in printing everything in color, plus she uses printers that have cheap generic cartridges.

Me? Used a Samsung ML1710 for many years, until last year. Went through a few eBay refills too. Now have a $50 Samsung ML1660 from last Summer.

I'm still using a Brother HL-1440 from 7 years ago. We had to finally replace the toner about 2 years ago for the first time. I believe I paid $60 AR for the thing after going through 4 ink jets. Talk about a good investment.

All that being said this deal is still tempting. I really want a wifi capable priner (heck, even a network one would be nice) but until this thing fails I can't justify replacing it.

yeah i had a Samsung ML14XX for a long time. heck it still works but the little rubber part that pulls the paper in just stopped pulling the paper. fixed it but it never printed right.

Ink printers are just to damn expensive. though i did like haveing a photo printer. i could print up some nice pictures i took. but man that got expensive. Now i can take the memory card to walmart, target or such and print up the ones i want cheap.
