staples has the regular toner cart for $45, and amazon sells the high yield one for $45... so buying at the store isnt a total ripoff but still, if you can wait for the shipping the buy online.

Got it matched to $99 from Office Depot, minus the coupon, came to $81.18 with tax shipped, plus the coupon price. I needed a printer now and didn't want to blow another $30 plus tax on inkjet cartridges.
Phone Operator had no issue matching, but her tone changed when I mentioned the coupon.

We have an HL-5370DW and it's been SO great. Printing is super fast (natch) compared to inkjet. A networked printer is nice to have so all computers can quickly and easily print.

Maintenance page shows 1544 pages printed so far, with 23,000+ remaining on the drum.

a little FYI regarding this (and what seems to be most brother) laser printer. the status indicator for low/empty toner comes on quite early and will cause the printer to stop printing. you can bypass this by pressing 'Go' seven times or by accessing the printer settings page through your browser and changing the replace toner value from stop to continue. default username and password are admin//access.

Yes, running one completely dry can damage the drum. I know - I did it once accidentally, and Brother said the damage wasn't covered under warranty (not that I expected them to fix it, but it never hurts to ask...). Usually, on cheap printers, it costs as much (or more) to replace the drum than to replace the printer itself.

If you override the low toner check, just keep an eye on the quality of the print. as soon as it begins to lighten up or otherwise shows signs of deterioration in quality, make sure you replace the toner at that point and you'll be ok.

this. some people still want to print pictures and color stuff at home. for me...i dont need anything printed in color, and if i want a picture printed, ill take it somewhere and get it cheap.

a cheap laser printer is nice to have if you print fairly regularly and just need B&W. as a student ive found my samsung laser printer to be pretty damn handy.

I just bought this printer the other day but it refused to print labels using the tray, even though I tricked it once and it printed fine. Is there a way around this?

If so I plan on buying 2.

in my experience, pictures are most often viewed on laptop/cellphone/tv screens. if there is ever a need to have a physical picture, its for two reasons- utility or displaying. rarely you need pictures to display, and when you do, you want the highest possible quality and durability (take to walgreens). when you need a picture for utility (as what most people need), you can almost always do just fine with a grayscale print. so, all factors into consideration, monochrome lasers right now provide the best choice.

I bought this printer when I posted the OP. It is awesome. The duplex works very well and saves paper. Since the printer is wireless I'm able to keep it in a corner away from everything else.
