it's recomended that you install fresh OS for new builds. if you have a dvd-rw, you can burn the data you need onto the disc.

if you bought the hard drive in a retail kit it will have an imaging utility built in.

no chance u can use the old os. well i guess u can try to install xp over the old install....otherwise its not going to boot with all the hardware changes, especially with the m/b change.
no reason why that hd wouldn't work in ur new system, make sure the jumpers are set correctly.
best to just reinstall windows on new harddrive, your old drive is too slow for xp
if you have no os install disc u are pretty much up sh*t creek.

Not true at all. I did an upgrade for a friend (motherboard, CPU, video card, RAM, case) and he didn't want to format, so we didn't and it worked fine. Just installed new drivers when everything new was installed. I guess it could depend on the exact specifications, but it's worth trying it first.

never mine on that question. i conntect both hard drive to a third computer and duplicate the drive from there. I got one problem, when i start the window. on the "long on to windows" page. i'm getting this massage

Limited Virtual Memory

your system as no paging file, or the paging file is too small.
1. right click my computer, click properties and then click the advanced tab.
2. click ont he performance Options button, and then click on the Change button, under drive [volume label], select the drive you want.
3. to create a new paging ile click the initial Size(MB) box, and then type a larger file size.
or
to increase the paging file size, click the maximum size box, and then type a lorger file size.

when you have finished, click set, and then ok.

this massage apears when i try to start up with new hard drive.

I can't log on in to the window to change anything. what can i do???
