I'm currently conducting a study on the average intelligence of religious people. Since that's a huge topic I narrowed it down to people who go to Church, Temple, or Mosque more than 1 time a week. So far my data supports the following:

2-3 times a week: Borderline retarded
4-5 times a week: Having an affair with church official
6-7 times a week: Toilet at home not working
LOL, are you a comedian? I mean, really, do you do stand up?
Because you should. That schtick would get a standing ovation in any comedy club.

you da man

I'm sitting in church one day listening to the sermon. At the core of the story of this particular teaching of Christ was a message of anti-materialism. Then it hit me. Jesus Christ's teachings were all basically rooted in the rejection of the material (much like Buddha - IMHO.) Then I walk out into the parking lot and find myself surrounded by Mercedes, Lincolns, Lexus, BMW, Hummer... All driven by people who will go home to their McMansions filled with frivolous items.

And your judging them which is also a no no. In a church full of hypocrites, you should feel right at home.

I'll expand on your example and play a little devil's advocate. Think about it this way. If you're poor then you probably can't contribute much to charity but your time which, many poor people do.

Evidence? I'd wager most don't.

If you're well-off then you can afford to donate much more.

Um, yeah. That's what I said.

Take the Lincoln SUV's which start at $57,000. The same person could choose to purchase a Hyundai Santa Fe instead ($23,000) and take the difference ($34,000) and use it to assist a person or even a whole family who is in need. This money could be put to good use helping a family better themselves or even to get them on the right direction to being "well off" themselves. The person driving the Hyundai doesn't give up anything from a practical standpoint. They can still get to wherever they need to at the same speeds.

This is the kind of thinking that Jesus would have had in mind. Shedding materialism leads to spiritual happiness.

Hey, I'm just sayin...

Kind of a lame counter point overall and you missed the bulk of my point which was you have no idea what those people do to help anyone. You see a nice car and you make a negative judgement. That's called stereotyping and prejudice. And you're starting to sound like the guy at the end of Schindler's List when he equates his material posessions to possible lives saved.

If you knew those people were driving flashy cars, living in McMansions and doing fuck-all to help the people in your community then you'd have a case. But you don't, so you don't.

You shouldn't make blanket judgements about people you don't know.

Everyone (OP included) insults our own intelligence when posting these threads.

Save yourself the embarrassment ... and keep it inside.

If you believe in something ... believe.

If you don't believe then don't.

You pay the price for your choices in the end.

Why do you feel the need to whine here, in the forums?

I'm very worried about fire and brimstone. I really am.

As a side note I have voted for Republicans before and I'm not a religious zealot. I just tend to vote for the better candidate regardless of party. Right now I think I'd rather wipe my ass with both parties though. Out with them all I say.
