Duron 1.6 or Tbird 1.33?

Okay, guys, let me make this simple. I want to upgrade my EXISTING processor on my motherboard without buying ANYTHING else. Please keep that in mind, ok?

Which is going to be faster for Photoshop and Flash...the Duron 1.6 or the Tbird 1.33? This is NOT my main job, it is just a hobby, so spending $40 for either will allow me to upgrade from my current Duron running at 870 MHz.

I say go witht the Duron. It will be faster stock, plus it will most likely overclock way better. The 1.33/1.4 Tbird are known for running hot. I comes from the streched .18 core. I think the Duron also has SSE intructions, which will help in certain programs like Photoshop.

The Duron easily. It has SSE, data prefetch, 1.5vcore, and runs the same FSB as the old t-bird now and is obviously faster clocked. However, make certain your board has a bios update that handles the Applebred or that others have successfully used them in it even without proper CPU ID or you may end up having to return it for the 1.33 in the end.

Crap. It seems from amdmb.com, that my IWill simply will not take the .13 cores. So, this is out. Dang.

edit: Technically, the 1.33 is still an option.

that's what i would say.

but it looks like your mobo wont handle it =\. No BIOS updates available?

Give us the MB model number. It might still run correctly even if its not recognized correctly. Most MB makers would rather you purchase a new board, than provide support for a previous model. Hell, I got a Barton running on a K7S5A v1.0 with a FSB adjusting program loading on with Windows.

Not to mention that the new Durons OC absolutely killer. Some people can get their's to 200FSB no sweat.

I had a Duron 1.6 for a while. Kicked the crap out of the old Thunderbird 1.4 I was using.

Thanks for the thread. I was thinking of doing the same thing for my wife's pc. So, the Duron 1.6 is the best bet.
