Duron 900MHz highest core voltage/temp? Drivers for Vortex2 with WinXP?

Two questions...

1) What is the highest core voltage setting one should put a Duron 900MHz at, and what temperature should the processor remain under?

2) How do Vortex2 based soundcards (MX300, SQ2500, etc.) work with WindowsXP...since there are no real drivers for them? Can you use Win2K drivers with WinXP or do the default drivers work ok? Basically...will I still be able to get sound to work even if it's not fully DirectX compliant and 3D and all that (will it still put out sound in games and all that...)

Thanks,
Atheras

As I understand it, the WinXP drivers work fine. No bells and whistles, but MS actually improved the Vortex2 drivers for XP.

your pretty S.O.L. dude... sorry to say... i had a Xitel Platinum Vortex 2 card a while back and used it in winXP for about a week before i went and got a new SB Audigy... the native drivers suck because they don't let you use any of the features of the card... it basically turns your awesome vortex 2 into a better sounding onboard card... =P

basically what supra said regarding the winxp drivers for vortex2 cards...the best drivers available are the default winxp ones that MS touched up a little from the beta WDM ones (originally for win2k).

the problem with them is getting A3D to function properly in games, etc...four channel sound should still work, but the rear channels are just replicated front stereo, AFAIK.

I wouldn't take the duron voltage over 1.85, but that's just me...it dpeends on the method of cooling u're using of course...the temps at 1.85 o/ced to over 1ghz should be around 50-60 depending on your cooler...i have an 800 @ 1ghz @ 1.85v @ 53celcius under load (lacking any case fans tho right now)..decent exhaust should drop it a couple celcius...

some people say that their aureal based cards work just fine in XP. i, however, could not get 2 different aureal cards to work under XP. i tried all the tricks posted on www.vortexofsound.com and elsewhere, but nothing worked for me. just cross your fingers.

After getting the answers above, my expierence with the situation was what chansen said. Using the default drivers that WinXP comes with, the card works fine. No bells and whistles, but it works.

This info is from www.vortexofsound.com:

Drivers for all Vortex-based audio products are included with the Windows XP operating system - both Home and Professional versions. It is recommended that you use these drivers only, and no others. For more information on supported audio products under Windows XP, please refer to this link.

(Note: Microsoft has since updated the drivers for the Aureal Vortex-based sound cards and put these new drivers on the Windows Update site. User feedback has been negative in regards to these new drivers, so it is recommended that you not update to this new version.)

These drivers support digital audio, DirectSound, DS3D, A3D 3.0, MIDI (via DirectMusic), the wavetable header, the joystick port, and S/PDIF Out.

The drivers do not support EAX, A3D 3.0 reverb, or S/PDIF In.

There is also no Control Panel provided. However, a replacement has been created by Chris Day that works under WindowsXP. It can be downloaded from his site.

Hope that this helps. (Sorry if the 'links' don't work- straight copy and paste.)
