Huh? As I said, I read The Inq all the time, and their news ends up bearing out, with rare exceptions. That's a far, FAR cry from supermarket tabloids that make their living by fabricating ridiculous plop to suck in the soap-opera crowd.

If you have any examples of The Inq or The Reg (or XBit, acclaimed by AnandTech's NFS4 as highly reliable) fabricating mounds of ridiculous plop just to sell a few page hits, you point 'em out to us

Meh, my care level on this matter is only high enough to get a comment. I'd have to be much more incited about it to go dig up links and such. And to that end I shall shut up about the credibility of those sites.

This is nothing you guys would really be interested in other than a real cheap computer.

Here's another article on it. Shame on you guys for doubting the mighty register! haha

I was about to also say "With a 1700+ selling at 40 dollars why don't they just sell those instead"....but wow 25$! That is pretty cheap ya know..

With a 266fsb, higher clockspeeds and undoubtedly still having SSE and data prefetch, how did you arrive at that conclusion?

They could always call it the Athlon SE... in the same vein of those marketing geniuses/idiots who decided that a GeForce 4 Ti 4800 SE was actually a 4200 on an entirely pointless bus speed hike. Sigh.

I have seen the name Applebred at the Asus.com site. Their latest bios for the A7N8X included CPU support for this new family.

Asus.com, choose Socket A and A7N8X to see them. There are three models, the Duron 1400, 1600 and 1800. They are model 8 CPU's, so I guess that means that they are based on the T'bred core. Peace.

That's proof-positive and far more reliable than some "other" news sources. Thanks for this post.

RE:"Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while."

Indeed. Actually the Register and Inquirer do very well at finding acorns.

I wonder what the temperatures will be like for these chips. Being relatively low powered and having the same small manufacturing process as its bigger brothers could mean for some decent HTPC setups.

Beatle,
Why not...
As you know all, cache transistors take up a lot of real estate and generate heat. Eliminate cache and the chip should run real cool. Dunno about passive cooling though.
