Duron & KT133A?

Is it worth buying a KT133A mobo to work with a Duron processor? I ask this because the speed mark for the duron is 200 MHZ(100MHz FSB) while for the thunderbird is 266 (133 FSB).

T-Bird is also 100FSB.
133FSB is for the new T-Birds which are not coming out till the end of the year.

End of the year? Not quite - they're expected to be out next month. So far, not much of a price premium - ~$270 for 1.2GHz TBird w/200MHz bus, ~$300 for 1.2GHz TBird w/266Mhz bus.

The KT133a's were supposed to come out 2 months ago and they are just coming out now.

Actually, the 133/266 TBirds are already on Price Watch, so I'd expect they'll be here next month. They were probably held back because of the lack of availability of KT133A/760 boards, since the only difference is the CPU identifier and the multiplier - something that's not that hard for AMD to change.

Not sure about availability of the KT133A boards being two months ago. VIA didn't announce the launch of the KT133A until December 8, 2000. Abit has always said the KT7A was a Q1 2001 product. MSI was also supposed to be available here in January but has had their boards held up in Taiwan Customs.

Absolutely, the Duron has a 100Mhz bus sure, but that doesn't mean it can't run on a 133Mhz bus.

Duron 600 @ 133 Bus = 800
Duron 650 @ 133 Bus = 866
Duron 700 @ 133 Bus = 933
Duron 750 @ 133 Bus = 1000

The 750 is getting a bit less likely...but the lower ones should run easily...and if you aren't comfortable overclocking, get an 800 and run it at 6x133 instead of 8x100, you get 800Mhz on the chip either way, but faster RAM and faster system bus.

And if you don't like any of that..how about plain old future upgradability....if you get a KT133A you can put a 1.5Ghz/133Mhz Athlon in it later....if you get a KT133 the best you can do is 1200/100Mhz

NoreCNN, pulling facts out of your ass with absolutely NO basis for them is grounds for ass whooping. Just shaddup if you don't know something! Sheesh! :Q

The 133/266MHz FSB Tbirds should be coming to market shortly- probably in a month or less as Willy said. Also as Willy mentioned, Via announced the KT133A on Dec. 8th- just because you heard rumors that it should have come to market in October doesn't mean anything because those rumors were not from Via. It always takes a month and a half to get from the announcement to the market with the first round of products.
