Duron overclocked problem

I purchased a Duron 800 which had been bridged and promised to run at 950. When i first bought it, I tested it at 950 (9.5 x 100) to check and it ran but was a little warm (say 55c) so i backed it down to 900 (9 x 100) which gave temps in the high 40s. I have been running it for several months like this and have been satisfied with the price / performance. I have noticed that the temp has been slowly climbing up over the last several months until it has reached the 63c range (under load). I know that this is still within spec, so while i was not happy with the temp, i lived with it. Last night, the system shut down unexpectedly. I rebooted and the system defaulted to 500 (5 x 100). I went to bios and reset it to 9 x 100 and booted again and again it ran at 500 even though the bios showed that it should have been 900. I then set the bios to fail safe settings and it booted to the chip default of 800. Any ideas? Is the heat killing it slowly? The bridges going out?

One more thing, i had just installed more ram and a iomega 12x10x32 the same day this happened. I did test the ram and it is fine and the burner works like a champ.

If the bridges were done w/ lead pencil then yes, they will "wear" out. As for the heat increase that may be due to the RS heatsink grease. I used to use that stuff & I noticed that it will dry out over time thus reducing it's effectiveness. When you re-do the bridges check the grease, my guess it that you'll find it has dried out (looks & feels "gunky"). Use Artic Silver or something comparable, it doesn't dry out.

Edit: My choice for the bridges is auto defroster "paint". It's a PIA but it's permanent.

1. Take out the mobo.
2. Take out the HSF.
3. Look at the CPU...redo the pencil trick (unless it's already have some other thing on those L1 bridges...but I doubt it.).
4. Clean the HSF.
5. Re-apply the grease (ASII reccommeded).
6. Put back everything.
