duron with 145W power supply...

has anyone tried using a 145W PS for a duron system?

Well the duron takes 50watts of power so that will only leave you with 95watts for other stuff which isn't enough!

I decided to play with a "cute" little system for my wife (she had a K6 233 with AT Mb). Went with a micro ATX case (Enlite 7150/145W), MSI K7TM Pro board, Duron 600, and ChromeOrb cooler (added a 60mm case fan, also). System only has PCI modem, ATI Expert, 12X CD, and 5.7Gb Maxtor (sound on board). It seems to be working fine, and though I can't monitor temperature with the software, it doesn't seem to be putting out much heat thru the supply fan.

Oddly, if you check the AMD site and look under PS's, there are 2 uATX
supplies listed for Enlite - but the Enlite site doesn't list corresponding model #'s.

Point is that AMD does recommend a list of 145W supplies for all Durons.

If you only have one hard drive, one cdrom drive, and onboard sound and video, and you aren't going to overclock you're probably ok.

The more drives and expansion cards you have in your system, the more chances there are that you're not goning to have enough watts. If you have multiple drives and/or a CD burner, a good sound card, and hot video card, you're gonna run out of juice.

I had people tell me I couldn't run a Celeron 433 on 145 watts. Onboard sound, video, 15GB 5400 rpm HDD, and 40X CD rom.

Rock solid stable, very cool, and very quiet.

well i run a PIII 500E, 48x cd-rom, zip250 IDE, 7200rpm Maxtor 10gb, floppy, overclocked Voodoo3 2000 PCI, SoundBlaster 64V, D-Link 10/100NIC all off of a Dell 83W PS, and it works just fine of course, i don't think a PIII takes as much juice as a Duron, but it can be done

I've gone lower and still had no problems. Currently running with just a 200watt. To think of it, I don't know if anyone has actually had power issues with the kt133 boards. I know from personal experience that the amd750/751 warnings were valid but so far the epox/abit kt133 boards seem to perfectly compatible.

50 watts is what a 1ghz tbird uses..
a duron at stock speed will NOT use that much power

Er... 83W? Is this thing an OptiPlex or WebPC? The lowest I've seen at Dell so far is 145W for the Dimension L series, but I haven't looked too hard (working on a petition to suggest they put REAL power supplies in these things).

why not just get one generic PS and save all the hazard
