akugami:
Hey I noticed your sig and I too am interested in that antec p160.
Sort of like the look. I was thinking about a thermaltake shark with the open mesh side
panel, but am really apprehensive as many reviews say it lets a bunch of noise out.
How does you system sound given the case is made of A?
I had been reading some stuff over at silentpcreview.com and they seem
to prefer steel cases for quite operation, saying the AL reverberates. But your
p160 is thick AL at 1.2mm . Is the sound that bad or that different than an equivalent steel case with 120mm fans? Does your case rattle, and does the side panel mount firmly and touch all around its perimeter, (no play so no rattle)?
So some more question are: you know there is often a 7200 humm of harddrives at idle. (I don't care about seeks , that noise does not bother me).
Can you hear that muffled high pitch hum that comes out of the harddrive, given the harddrive is mounted down near the front opening? Can you hear that Nforce4 fan on your motherboard bad? What cooler you got on your 3000+ by the way to get it overclocked that high? Do you have a select 3000+ made from a certain production week?
Anyways back to the case questions (that is what I am most interested in).Does much dust accumulate in your case? There is an opening at the bottom where you pull the front facia off, do you think much air bypasses the front filter? Does much dust get sucked in through the harddrive perimeter and the cdrom perimeter. Also , are those opening all around the front panel perimeter, or is that just sort of look like opening but are not really (hard to tell from pictures). Are you running a fan up front? Is there any room to stick some rubber padding under the front fan so it does not shake much?
If you remove a 5 inch bay plate to install a device, can you replace it, if you decide to remove the device?
What is your temp like? Could you undervolt your rear fan if your ran your 3000+ processor at stock?
How warm does your video card get, would it have been much better with side panel mesh like on the antec slk3000b? Or does it breath pretty well around your video card without all that mesh side openings?
Thanks for answering some questions in advance
