I have a DVD-R (wedding video) but my stand alone dvd player doesnt seem to play it. I have a DVD+R burner, and have made dvd+r disks that have worked on my stand alone before. What is an easy way to convert this DVD-R to DVD+R??

So far i have tried copy the files off the DVD-R and reburning them to DVD+R but it did not work. What should I do?

You could use the freeware program DVD Shrink to take the files from the DVD-R and put them into a writeable format so you can burn them to DVD+R.

Of course, you might want to shell-out $80 bucks and get a good progressive-scan modern DVD player that will run circles around your late 1990's model $400 DVD player! That's what I did!

my late 90's model dvd player was 600 bucks...

I know I could buy a new one, but I dont really watch burned DVDs on my stand alone often.

If you have nero, pop it in, make a direct copy, theres no copy protection on a wedding video, so, let it copy directly, or if you have different dvd/cd software, i'm sure the other programs have a direct copy also... should work ok..

Sucks doesn't it? Like you, my $400 dollar late 90's DVD player is completely outclassed by current $80 dollar DVD players! I ended up giving my old DVD player to my mother who was still living in the pre-DVD era.

Anyways, use DVD Shrink for free... should do what you need it to (it won't compress a thing if it doesn't need to... it's just an easy way to burn to DVD). If you don't have a DVD burning application already installed, you can easily get a free trial download of 1Click DVD or DVD Copy long enough to burn to DVD+R.

Like you my $350 Sony DRU500a is now outclassed by $71 Sony DW D22A,a 16x,Dual layer burner. Is life grand....

The Nero direct copy should work. BUT, your player, being from the 90's may not recognize either format. You might be able to check it out at VideoHelp. There is a compatibility list there that may show you what you need to know. Also, in this case, +RW could potentially even be the answer.

BUT, for $40, you may be able to find a Cyberhome or Apex player that will meet or exceed the capabilities of your old settop. If you are using Optical, it may take $20 more to find a player. If you do replace the player, don't spend a lot of money as new players are coming at the end of this year and should reach prices for the rest of us mortals next year (the blue formats).
