for example, i have an original dvd of Fast and Furious 1
i use dvd decrypter to put it into my hard drive (Audio_TS and Video_TS) i'm a video noob so excuse that.
then i have a folder with a range of 20-70 files in it with an average of 7gb size. i can only play these movies with a dvd player like cyberlink power dvd, i'm sure others can but thats the only one i'm using. i have other .avi files of movies in the 700,000KB range size. is there a way to convert those 7gb movie files to .avi format? thanks

i use Fair Use Wizard 2.5 for my compessing dvd to small files. i use x264 along with 128kbs mp3 or ogg audio and it looks excellent at 500MB total movie usage. plus it is free if you want your finished movie to be less than 700MB. to be honest a 500MB x264 is very impressive in video quality.

if anybody knows of a way to do a quick cut of video in x264/mp3 format, i wouln't mind showing what i am talking about with a short clip of dust to glory. again, all i want to do is cut off the front and end parts of the video. let me know what will do it.

also i use vlc for my video player, plays just about every format out there.

i wiill look for the thread(it may have been on cdfreaks, dvdrhelp or doom9...), but in the mean time you owe it to yourself to try out something that puts out in x264....

x264 is the open source verions of h264, kind of like xvid compared to divx, one is free(x264/xvide) and one you have to usually pay for(h264/divx)

also i would personally call this re-encoding or transcoding. if you are making the files a lot smaller like 400-800MB or so, then you would be re-encoding into a different format, most likely divx, xvid or the mp4 x/h264 stuff that is getting better and better.

like i said if you want to see a x264 encoded video that is encoded at ~5MB/Min i can cut a small part of dust to glory out(figured out how to do that last night) that has a lot of colors, dust, action, etc so you can see the quality of the encoding. file size would be ~20MB, so ~4Min of video @ 704x368px
