100 DVD's for our finance guy's church.

I was thinking $0.50 / DVD-R = $50
10 hours labor (about 6 min a DVD) at $15/hr = $150
Wear a Tear on Hardware (replacement cost basically) = $40
Total $240

Sound good? I have never done a job like this before.

Thanks!

Edit:
100 DVD-R .45 = $45.00
100 DVD Case .25 = $25.00
10 Hours Labor $10.00 = $100.00

$170.00

Edit:
$2 / DVD = $200

labr is labor. if you don't charge now they will expect you to do it free the next time, and the next.

I speak from experience.

Right...because any profit made while working for the church is bad.....no matter if it's mowing the grass, cleaning, construction, etc.

I'd say lose the wear and tear and it's fine. Your labor costs should cover wear and tear, you shouldn't be charging seperate for that.

That's like me going to a consulting job, and charging for the future maintenance of my car.

Alright no wear and tear.... that make sense.

It's not my church though, and a company is going to really rip them off. My time isn't free.

I am making adjustments for cases too. He didn't mention lables or anything fancy.

100 DVD-R .45 $45.00
100 DVD Case .25 $25.00
10 Hours Labor $10.00 $100.00

$170.00

Wear and tear...yeah...

Hey, you forgot to account for the wear and tear on the CPU! Let's see, that's 15 trillion clock cycles, at $.000001 per cycle...hmmm...and don't forget the hard drive, it probably spun around a million times when you were burning those DVDs...at $.0001 per revolution...after all, you're going to have to replace your whole computer after this job, you know how much damage burning DVDs does to solid-state hardware.

Oh, and why don't you reduce the burn speed, so that you can charge them 20 hours "labor" for putting the DVD in the drive, and then watching TV while the computer does its thing?

Nice flip-flop. Although, I do agree the wear and tear cost is bogus.

Previously you called the OP "f**king low" because he wants to charge more than the cost of the DVD media, and you think his time should be given to a church that's not even his own.

Now, profit is OK by you?

I would like to see your off the shelf DVD-RW burn 100DVDs back to back and not die...

What brand is yours?

My last one (Lite-On) died after maybe 50 burns.

sure profit is great. but to charge twice the amount for dvd's and wear and tear? thats bs.

but glad he took it off. $170 is fair for 100 dvd's.

The church can afford it, they probably get some good contributions from their members.

I've worn out quite a few CD/DVD drives, so wear & tear is a valid concern.

If I were you I'd quote them a fixed price per unit & then do what you can to minimize your cost (media, time, etc.). I think $2 per burned, labelled disc with a case is reasonable.

It will make billing much simpler, & allow you some flexibility.

For example, I wouldn't even CONSIDER doing this job without multiple burners, which of course will vastly decrease your hours. With per unit billing you're free to do the job however you want, & as long as they get what they paid for they'll be happy.

I like your fixed PPU idea. That makes a lot more sense and does give me quite a bit of flexibility. I will have to consider it!
