DVD burning

Hi, I searched but couldn't seem to find an answer.

I'm coming from a scsi cd burner world so bear with me I'm getting a new computer with a DVD burner (benq dw1640). Do I need to be concerned about burning while doing other things, like reading the forums, playing poker, etc?

Probably not even if you just have a single-core A64 or XP or non-hyperthreading P4. Definitely not if you have HT or a dualie.

The exception is heavy gaming (Half-Life 2, etc.) will cause problems unless you do have a dualie.

I'm getting myself an X2 and figured this was one of the benefits of having a dualie. It's soon to be a whole new world for me

All burners have buffer underrun protection for a number of years now so its not really a problem anymore. I haven't tried playing a game and burning at the same time. Maybe I'll give it a try with CS or swat4 just to see if it will work.
