suite of sophisticated software for ripping a DVD to an SVCD.
It allows lots of customization, but for the novice, you need only
set the working directory paths and go...

Don't waste your time with other stuff. This is the way to go.
Note: Although DVD2SVCD makes it EASY to make very high quality
SVCDs (you will be amazed at how good the SVCDs you make with
DVD2SVCD are...no need for DiVx, and you'll never go back to standard
VCD), you need the following: Approximately 10Gb free space (usually
less, but this is a reasonable upper bound); 8-24 hours for the
process, depending on your processor speed and the length of the
movie.
