Firstly I would like to say Hi,
I have viewed this forum on many occasions for answers to problems I have had with my PC and I have found it to be a wealth of information. A big thanks to all who have unknowingly helped me resolve those issues.
However I have hit a brick wall recently in regards getting my DVD RW to work.
My system is as follows:
E6400 C2D
Gigabyte 965P DS3 (F8i Bios)
1Gb Corsair Value Ram 667
Samsung Spinpoint 80Gb SATA HDD
Xpertvision 7600GT 256Mb PCI-E
PIONEER DVR-111DSV
Windows XP SP2
My problem is I can not get Windows to recognise the drive. The setup is as follows:
HDD connected to ICH8 SATA port.
DVD connected to IDE connector.
Bios set in fail safe.
I have scoured forums for about 2 weeks now and have yet to find a solution. Here are some I have tried:
1. Delete upperfilters and lowerfilters from registry. Result - these are not present in the registry.
2. Installed Gigabyte GBB36X drivers and connected HDD drive to Gigabyte SATA. Result - DVD showed up in windows but wont read any disks and slows system down terribly. Is DMA enabled.
3. Installed JMicron driver for JBB36X. Result - No drive visible.
4. Complete fresh install of XP with F6 third party RAID from floppy. Result - See No. 2.
5. Tried a number of configurations in Bios along with differnt SATA ports to no avail. Result - NTLDR is missing.
The drive is working as it lets me install Windows from it if I do a fresh install.
The drive is recognised in the Bios in several configurations.
Now my question is am I missing something. If not would someone please be kind enough to offer a step by step guide on how to solve this problem even if I have to do another complete install.
Thanks in advance
Regards
