DVD drive randomly opens ?!?

My DVD-ROM drive opens randomly, I have poked through the logs in the Event Viewer, but have seen nothing that coincides with the timing of the tray popping out.
Any ideas as to what services/programs might be doing this?
It is kind of annoying, my 2 year old daughter came walking up to me with a disk the other day, and I would hate for her to take the opportunity to replace the disk with who-knows-what and then close it.

One possible cause is a virus/worm/Trojan. There are plenty of them with the capability. Do you have antivirus software running, and are its virus definitions up-to-date (meaning, 1-2 days old at the oldest)? Do you have a hardware firewall/router and/or a software firewall at the moment? Are you on a broadband connection?

If you need a router, Netgear and Linksys have some that aren't too high in price and they'll form the first line of defense against the outside world for those occasions where your PC doesn't have its own defenses in place (fresh Windows installation, for example). You can get free basic ZoneAlarm firewall software from here (ignore the bait for the free trial of ZoneAlarm Pro unless you want to buy ZA Pro when the trial's over), and if your usage meets the terms of the license agreement, you can also get free Grisoft AVG Free Edition antivirus software from Grisoft. Make sure to enable heuristics, disable asking for confirmation, and hit the Set As New Default button so it uses those settings henceforth. Also make it update its definitions every 1 day.

Could be other stuff causing that too, but if it happens to be viruses... there ya go If you think your system did catch a virus, you should disable System Restore so Windows doesn't replace the virus after it's been deleted :roll:

I just did a clean re-install of XP Pro last week.
I have Norton AV corp version running (since install).
I have Zonealarm running (since install).

Everytime I come upstairs and sit down next to my comp, the DVD tray is hanging out. Before the re-install it only did it once a day, but today it has been out every one of the three times I came up to sit at this damn complicator (computer).

tray a different power plug (molex) / ide cable, sometimes these can flake out and trigger the tray motors to actuate.
