its 99 bucks.. cheap work huh.. thats right beleave that playboy

the best thing is you can get this to work region free so you

can play dvd's from other places... works with thoes RCE encoded dvd's when

set to all region mode.. this is a really good deal

if u cant find the dvd player @ ur local target ask someone.. ours were stashed away out of the electronics section to somewhere even i wouldnt have found it

I believe a better deal would be that Apex DVD player which comes with all the features of the Orbitron and then some. Get it at your local WalMart for $98. It's the Apex AD500W. Do a search on the forum for AD500W or Apex and chances are you'll find the thread(s) that have that deal there.

The deal on the Apex 660 is a lot better.. Apex is better than Oritron.

the apex 660 is better than the ornitron one and it could be flash into region 0 (free), the only problem the apex 660 lack is that when u try to play vcd, u have to unplug the white rca kable, for instance the left speaker is in mandarin, while the right one is in cantonese. The apex 500W could be hack to region free, but u have to open it up and replace the EEPROM chip.

The_Dude8, it's not the player that makes the mandarin, it's the VCD. My toshiba DVD and Apex both do that with some VCDs, but most english VCDs, neither of them do it.

VCD has only 2 audio channels for stereo. For bilingual VCD, of course left channel is one language, right channel is another language. Some DVD players allow you to choose to play one audio channel in both speakers.

You can hack the Apex 660 just by burning a CD with the upgrade and putting it in. It also disables the macrovision. I did it and it works fine.

Can you provide a link or web address where I can get the data to burn the cd for eliminating the macrocode for the Apex 660? I have a 660 and love it but no macrocode would make it even better.

I have an AD-600A, but I have had quite a few problems. Sound synching, certain disks not playing, etc. Does the 660 address the problems found in the 600?

I got the old apex ad-600a.
You can hack it with just the remote control.

No cd's needed.
No opening up the box.

Just an easy secret menu.

I'd just like to point out that this very DVD unit was available a few months ago at Target for only $83.00. I picked mine up in New Hampshire and paid exactly $83.00. It works nice, and I've already set it up for region free and VCD playback.

who has actually ever USED the region-free features? I've always owned a region-hackable player but have never owned an import DVD that required it. Nice selling feature, but do you guys use it?

I have the Pioneer 535 that is region free and I do use the feature. There are some discs that are released a good bit before the US version, others that have more features and even some with better transfers than their US counterpart. If your a bit of a DVD freak like me, the feature is more of a necessity than a plus.
