If you are already paying for internet in the low $20 range it may be a deal to switch to Earthlink. After 3 months just cancel. I got a digital camera this way.

earthlink has run this promotion before and received numerous complaints from customers who never received their dvd players, digital camera's or whatever lure they used to obtain them as new customers.
dont expect to receive it and when you do .. dont be disapppointed at the lack of quality. :frown:

I have received both the webcam and digital camera quickly and with no problems canceling afterwards. Only downside is both are really cheap, so I wonder if the dvd player would suck as well.

If youre interested in this just expect the dvd to be a name brand no one has heard of,likely from china.The warranty will likely be one of those 90 days send it postpaid along with a money order for 49.95 to cover handling deals... In other words,only get this if you need the isp service and are paying 20 something a month now...That way if gives out after a few months you can live with it.

yeah, earthlink's promo giveaways are a buncha BS. i'm sure the deal requires one year contract sign up anyways. they provided me with great dialup but at an inflated price, i've since moved on

It's only a 3 month contract. Most people are two lazy to follow up on these things (i.e. rebates and promos). So if you don't get something a company promised ride their a$$. Oh, and don't forget to cancel YOU have to do that.

Hmm... I've been using Earthlink for 6 months now and got nothing free when I signed up (well, the first 2 months at $1 each, but still ).

The player may be (probably will be) crappy, but their service is actually pretty good. I think I've lost my dial-up connection maybe twice in these six months. After three months, you might not want to cancel (except maybe to wait for their next giveaway ). I'm pretty happy with their service (then again, I came from AOL, which IS the definition of SUCK!).

I did receive a free printer and a free scanner once from them. So I am comfortable with the deal.. I am sure it is a Daewoo or some low end DVD player... but will make a good gift.

Says it will have S-Video. Try calling Earthlink and asking for a certain promo. They let me get one just by asking for the item. They want your $$$.

Got the info for this in the mail today. Currently I have AT&T Broadband for Cable Modem Access (I hate AT&T)

($39.99 + $10 Modem rental = $49.99/month)

I could switch to the Earthlink DSL for $49.95 per month (12 month contract, but rates didn't really go down at all in the past year anyway) and get the $25 dvd player (which I would put upstairs so my kids wouldn't have to use mine to play their DVDs)...

I also noticed on their website that they are offering a 3 month intro of $21.95/month for DSL.... any chance I can get them to let me sign a 12 month contract, get the dvd player and get my first 3 months at $21.95????

You're much better off getting a decent entry level DVD Player such as the Toshiba SD1700 for $99.99.

Toshiba SD1700 dvd player is a great DVD player but it only plays dvds. that sucks. it cant even play vcds. not worth it. i bet the crappy dvd player that comes with this earthlink deal plays vcds.

I did this and actually got the DVD Player before I got the DSL modem. The flyer I got said it was going to be a 2 channel only player, but the one I got had Dolby Digital Decoding, DTS passthru, MP3 capability, optical and coaxial digital outputs, and even component connections. I was quite surprised. The badge on the front was Xwave. This is perfect fleabay fodder!
