Are you running any virtual drives? (Nero ImageDrive, Daemon Tools, etc)

Look in the configuration settings and make sure the default drive is your DVD drive.

Not sure where to do that. The DVD is the only other drive in system

If you can't find the configuration settings in Powerdvd, there are some bigger problems that need addressing.

I used an old version of powerDVD 6 2.55 it wouldn't play DVDs in winXP and it also damaged mediaplayers ability to play DVDs, but then I upgraded to powerDVD 4 and all was fine again.

Try to uninstall powerDVD and use mediaplayer to view the DVD.

Queer. With PDVD on top, hit [CTRL + O] to try selecting the drive letter another way.

Install it then install the updated from their website. When you start power dvd. Go to configuration general settings. Make sure the default drive is your dvd. To the left of the play controls is an envelope. Click it and make sure your drive is selected as the source.
I'm using powerdvd with a lite-on drive.

I have the same problem on my HTPC. If I dont have a disc in the drive at bootup I get that error "no disc in drive". Put one in and restart the computer, works for me
