DVD Player that can play scratched DVD's?

I just got a Netflix subscription, and I'm finding that the DVD's often arrive scratched. My Sony DVD player chokes on these scratches, and often freezes up or skips entire chapters.

Can anyone here recommend a DVD player that's more tolerant to scratches? Yes, I tried Googling it, but didn't find much useful information.

I have found that the cheap ones play almost anything. My Sony is finicky as all hell. Or just get a CD/DVD scratch repair kit. They work pretty good.

My Samsung DVD player doesn't handle defects well, but strangely enough I've found that my slim PS2 will play discs that the Samsung won't.

My biggest complaint about DVDs is how easily they scratch, and I wish all discs used the Durabis coating that they use on Blu-Ray discs.

PC drives tend to be more fault-tolerant.

Clean the DVDs with toothpaste (the white pasty kind like original Crest) and a soft cloth in a circular, buffing motion. That worked on my friend's Halo 2 disk, anyway.

yes, i buy the $30 ones from walmart and we rarely have a problem with the scratchy netflix discs

On a sidenote, if the DVD arrives scratched and/or won't play, NF will switch it out for a different disc. The downside is that end up keeping the disc "out" longer than normal.

I have a Desay that I paid $12.88 for and it handles scratched DVD's better than the Sony....

Amusingly, my original post didn't mention that I had a Sony DVD player. I guess that these things are notorious for choking on scratched DVD's. Bummer.
