i have a dual format dvd burner, therefore it burns both dvd+r and dvd-r. although im not really sure what the difference is. i tried to read some explination of both, and from what i could understand it meant that the +r is what i should use and -r is an industry standard...but this dosent make too much sense...

does one have an advantage over the other or is that just a falacy? the whole thing dosent make too much sense...to me that is

robbed from the net:
"DVD plus drives are able to write DVD+RW media at a speed of 2.4X (an "X" is 1.3 megabytes/second), while DVD minus drives are currently limited to 2X speeds with DVD-RW media. If you plan to use a lot of RW media, this slight speed difference may affect your decision"

Haha, yea I would agree +R is the format to use and -R is the industry standard.

-R is slightly more compatible with more DVD players. Both are compatible with any of the newer players.

Writing speeds on +R is usually one step ahead of -R. Also, I hear that +R has better error correction. I haven't read aobut this in detail, but it makes sense since the storage capacity of +R is ever so slightly less than -R, prob because those extra bytes are used for that.

So I would say, if you're burning a movie or you're worried about compatibility with other ppl's drives, use -R. Otherwise, use +R.

The difference between +R and -R is very technical and mostly irrelevant. The only thing you really need to know is that -R's work a little better with old DVD players, and -R's also fit about 4MB more (0.1% more). Technically, +R is supposed to have some little advantages, but the important part is the actual quality of the media. For example, Verbatim is always better than Princo, no matter which one is +R and which one is -R.

It seriously doesn't matter which one you use. I get -R because good -R media it's a tiny bit cheaper than good +R media. Someday +R might be cheaper, and then I'll use that.

If you care about which media is good and which media is bad, go check out cdfreaks.com and look at the tests they have for different burners with different media. I think Ritek G04 DVD-R 4X media or G05 DVD-R 8X media is the cheapest stuff you can get that is still decent.
