Ive been surfing here for a while now taking all the good deals I could. I got an email today and though I would finally give back.

A while back I bought a 100 pack of DVD-R's for 19.99 free shipping ( https://www.thetechgeek.com/co...hp?pid=5227&cid=51 ) from thetechgeek.com As far as I know this is the permanant price. They have been working fine for me on a ND2500. Only a couple out of about 50 so far are bad.

can you tell us the media code? also what speed did those few go bad at?

Ive only done them at 4 x. Not sure what the code is, I will try and find out when I get home tonight. The ones that went bad may have been my fault. I forgot to turn off seti@home which uses all my cpu cycles... It could be the discs bad too tho. But for this cheap, I'm not too worried about a few.

I have yet to find +R discs which do not record well on my Nec 2500.

weird, the compatibility list suggests some brand writers cannot do 4x speed: https://www.thetechgeek.com/ht...CompatibilityList.html

or they just didnt test them at 4x?

also, abnormalbo you can use programs like dvdinfopro and kprobe to determine media code

does the packaging indicate where it was made?

Tha packaging is very generic, the discs themselves dont have anything written on them.

I have not had a chance to check out the k-probe. I was going to last night, but the wife was in a mood (a good one ) anyways, I will try tonight, but I have drill this weekend (Army Rserve.. HOOAH ) so may not have time.

I bought 100 of the DVD+R media, they have NO manufacturer id.
DVD Identifier says they are good for 1x, 2.4x, and 4x. With no mid, most of my drives will only write them at 2.4x (Nec 3500, Benq 1620, Liteon 1213), but my Nec 2500 with the 107v2b5 firmware writes them at 4x, 6x, and 8x. 8x speed gives a bit of a mountain effect at the end of the disc, so I am using them in the Nec 2500 at 6x. They work well enough that I just ordered another 100 a few minutes ago (the discount coupon still works, 100 delivered for $19.99).

On edit: The Benq 1620 writes them at 4x (with good results), the Nec 3500 and Liteon 1213 only at 2.4x.
