If you own a DVD burner of either type + or -, please post:

1. What drive you have.
2. What burning software you use and version.
3. What media you use.
4. What you have burned with it (DVD video, PS2, XBOX backups, data, music). (if you don't wanna comment, don't )
5. How many DVDs you have misburned.

I am going to buy one (prolly a DVD-R), but I wanna get some real life examples first.

Thanks!

1. Song DRU-120A

2. Easy CD Creator, version 5.3.2.34 for data, Ulead's DVD Workshop version 1.3 for authoring DVD video.

3. Have used Legacy, Memorex, Sony, and Maxell. No burning/reading problems with any of them. Even long/complicated DVD videos play glitch free on later Samsung, Sony, and GE players I've tested.

4. I burn data DVD's and video DVD's.

5. I ruined one disc when I first got the burner and didn't know how to use DVD Workshop but it was my fault.

1. Firewire Panasonic LF-D311 (DVD-RAM/-R), Built-in laptop Panasonic UJ-815 (in my Apple G4 Titanium)
2. I have used various software. Now I'll be mostly using Panasonic DVD Movie Album on the PC to extract .mpg files from DVD-RAM discs (from a camcorder and from a standalone DVD recorder), and then copy them over to the Mac to edit in QuickTime, ffmpegX and iMovie 2 for export into [/b]iDVD 2[/b]. I have tried DVD Studio Pro 1.5 (Mac) and have burned with both Nero (PC) and Toast (Mac).
3. Apple, Mitsui, TDK (all good), Optodisc (mediocre). Noname and Princos I tried are pretty bad.
4. Data and DVD Video
5. Lots, because I'm stoopid.

1) HPdvd200i
2) whatever the newest version of Nero is at any given time
3) hp DVD+rw discs (got a STEAL on a 25 pack for $25) , and then any name branded dvd+r discs
4) DVD videos, and the big one, BACKUPS! The original PS2 drives could only read - discs, but any made since august can read - or + r discs, all after then can read +rw, and some can read -rw. Xbox, well,
I've heard very mixed things about the disc types it can read, and it all depends on the mod you're using. Idon't know enough about that honestly to have my opinion count on the xbox issue.
5) Never. If your system can handle using a 48x cd-rw drive, it can handle even the new 4x dvd-rw drives. On my 2.4x drive, it takes me ~24 minutes to burn a whole disc, not bad at all. If you screw up a disc, it's really your fault if you're using a dvd+ drive, as only bigger name brands make the discs. For movies, you need to know how a DVD movie is structured and where to put files if you use nero, otherwise you'll need special software that lays it out. However, it's easy enough to catch on to. With dvd- drives, if you buy quality media, again, you screw up a disc it's likely your fault. The tricky part is that many REALLY horrid companies make media that flakes and is error ridden. Stick with the the named stuff, like Pioneer or Apple or Mitsui. Princo will LITERALLY fall apart, lol.

Also, keep in mind that if you get one of the 4x ppioneer drives, you need special media to burn at that fast speed, and it's expensive (comparatively). Lots of stuff here to learn, don't make a hasty decision!

1) Pioneer DVR-104 (OEM version of A04)
2) Prassi PrimoDVD 2.0
3) Apple (OEM TDKs) and TDK branded TDKs
4) PS2 backups, backups of real data on my machine!!! (at 4.7 gigs per -RW, no more sitting there and swapping CD-RWs for me when I want to backup my Mp3 collection, it fits nicely on 2 discs)
5) none, if you can burn a CD, you can burn a DVD

I borrowed a DVD-R drive a weekend or two ago to make copies of my wedding DVD

1) Pioneer A04 in FireWire chassis
2) Nero to burn ISO onto DVD-R (had already created the ISO, as the original iMac DVD-R was not copy-protected)
3) Maxell 4.7GB DVD-Rs, I think
4) Technically, it was only an ISO ... even though it was an ISO of DVD video
5) No errors. I was able to make three DVD-R copies successfully in three hours time.

1. Sony DRU500A (+ and -)
2. RecordNow Max 4.5
3. Ritek General Purpose Dvd-R and Memorex DVD+R
4. Data discs, Dvd Video, Xbox
5. Misburned a couple with the Riteks (burned about 75+ discs total) , 0 with the Memorex (have only burned 4 discs total)

With the new firmware, I haven't misburned any discs. It is also allowing me to burn the Ritek Dvd-r General Purpose Discs at 2x, even though it was supposed to only allow faster burning of Dvd+r discs

Pioneer A-05 Burner, I use DVD Decrypter (ripping mania), Ifoedit (authoring), Nero (burns perfect every time), Record Now (supposely best compadibility, I still use NeRo), DVDXCOPY (newbie program, good for on the fly), Gearpro (sucks bad), dvd2dvd (split), CCE (encode) for the process. I Just burn DVD's I mostly use the DVD Decypter & Ifoedit & Nero to burn the image, I like them to fit on one disk! Not a single coaster burned with a DVD-R, I have made one mistake with a DVD-RW but that does not count!

P.S --------------> I have a Sony DVP-NS315 Home DVD player it plays everything great, just wish it was a 100 disk changer!

I'm told Apple OEMs from a couple of different sources.

They do. I had some Apple Verbatim OEMsm but then my PS2 decided it didn't like any discs manufactured by Verbatim anymore. I also had some Apple Maxells, but I didn't really feel like trusting them, so I just returned them.

Here it goes:

1. Cendyne (Pioneer) A-05
2. Nero 55.9.17 and Primodvd
3. Ritek 4x
4. Everything but games (soon, modchip on it's way )
5. Since I got the Riteks, NONE! The first disc's I got were Optodisc's, and none of those burned right. Exchanged for the Ritek's and all was good!

I was asked today to film my friends wedding in April and I can't wait! Thinking of how cool I can make the wedding video on DVD has got me all stoked!

1. Sony DRU-500A
2. Nero
3. Apple/Pioneer/TDK (+/-)/Meritline(1x/2x)/Sony DVD+RW
4. Mainly home movies from miniDV cam, I made 1 back-up of a DVD
5. Only 2 misburns so far

So far I have burned about 30 discs, mainly I use DVD-R (my friends and family's dvd players have not had any problems with the -R discs), and use the DVD+RW for backups and tests. Both + and - work in my player. I really like my sony drive. It replaced a Pioneer A03.
