DVD-RW problems

Ok heres the thing.. a friend of mine asked me to help him burn a DVD.. and before I could even help him he told me he just did a firmware update.

Of course I had to ask him if he had any programs opened and stuff like that and the thing is.. He had winamp, msn, mirc, explorer opened and was chatting during the update AND he also had a DVD in the drive...

from personal experiences I can tell it's really bad, now his DVD won't even read blank DVD-R's and well.. can't read pretty much anything

Now I don't remember the model name and all that but is there any way he can restore his drive to the original drivers or does he absolutely have to replace it? thanks

look in the device manager for the model number anyways its on the outside of the drive if you ahve a problem with that. try to get the latest but you dont have to use your friend as a mistake you made its okay people make mistakes.

lol... i swear it ain't mine.. but since he's been bugging me for this for 2 days and he doesn't want to buy a new drive I was just wondering if theyre was another solution
