I got a LiteOn SATA DVD-RW, and it's great. I have no need for any IDE devices in my system now (nor those damned cables).

Another vote for SATA. Cabling is my issue. That and a lot of new boards have got downright rotten IDE implementations. (Meaning mine) IDE is being phased out, embrace the present.

If you still want to use a dedicated cable to your soundcard for CD analog or CD digital, then IDE is still the only choice. The SATA models I have seen omit these.

better make sure you m/b can boot from a sata optical drive. personally i think the options are far too limited ith sata optical drives to switch atm, but that is just me, and the larger ide cables don't bother me, nor do jumpers

as far as performance, it is identical

Wow, someone actually uses those? I have been throwing those things away for I don't know how long. I remember not using it on my Goldstar 4X CD-R...

What about RAID? Don't optical SATA drives screw that up/ make it impossible?

Why use extra bandwidth of your drive bus with something that a small 2pin or 4pin cable is capable of delivering more efficiently IMO? I guess is boils down to personal preference.
