DVD Xcopy (gold, xpress, original)

I am going overseas for a few months and want to bring my dvd's to watch on my laptop. However, I dont want to bring the originals, to have my bag stollen would mean I'm out thousands. I was thinking I could backup my library and bring those .. then if my backpack gets stolen I'm only out the cost of media.

Question:
What are your experiences? What limits do I have on backing up the movie DVD's in my collection? Any sort of encryption it cant get past? Any list of movies with said encryption.

To mods: if this breaks any rules could you just edit my post and not shut down the discussion. Just edit what is above please

Save your money. Use DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and NERO to backup all your DVD's.

A friend of mine has DVDXCopy and he seems happy with it, hell they offered a money back guarantee if you weren't happy when he bought it and I wouldn't be surprised if they still did that.

Most movies are encrypted, but DVDXCopy will remove the encryption when it copies them and it'll place a "warning this is a backup" at the beginning of the movie. Also all the backups can be traced to the copy of DVDXCopy used to create them, so if you give a copy to a friend make sure he knows not to rip it and distribute it himself.

DVD Shrink is actually quicker and easier than DVDXCopy, gives you WAY more control and features, and is free too.

DVD Shrink is actually quicker and easier than DVDXCopy, gives you WAY more control and features, and is free too.

Have a look at CloneDVD too.

I do not like how DVD Shrink can't span over two disks a G-9 (double layered) disk. That is lame. Star Wars has to eiter be lowered a lot in quality or I have to do it all by hand. l a m e

I believe DVDFAB will do what you are trying to do.
