nice.. yet strange.......

I was just wondering today when they were going to release it.. then I see this thread, therefore I think I caused it to be released by me thinking about it.

I know it's been discussed before, but how does it differ from DVDXCopy?
- I would assume speed since it looks like DVD shrink does a full re-encode nad DVDXCopy does "transcode"?
- any difference in quality?
- are the features similar?

(I just bought a Sony DRU-510 so I'm trying to get up to speed regarding DVD burning).

One of the biggest reasons I use DVD Shrink is that it doesn't try to add/change your DVD in any other way than you tell it. I haven't used DVDXCopy in a year or so, but I think it adds a disclaimer to the beginning of your DVD titles, which is annoying. The basic features are the same, they backup your DVD's, but unless XCopy has changed much, it doesn't let you do much else besides what it toutes (the 1-click backup, although that's even misleading ).

DVDXcopy Platinum & DVDShrink are very similar IMO, however DVDShrink is free and it gives you a lot more control on what/how you want compressed.

DVD shrink really is the best, and also free which is always good. Hopefully the new feature of it automatically burning disk for me will be handy.

Thanks for the link

My feelings exactly!

I was a former user of DVD X Copy, but like it's been stated, DVD Shrink gives you more control over compression, not to mention what you do/don't want to be included. It dumps everything to VOB files (VIDEO_TS folder creation = :Q), and can be easily burned with Nero 6. Not to mention you don't have that darned copyright warning like DVD X Copy does :|

BTW, here's the direct download: link

the best thing about the program is the deep analysis, it really does wonders compared to Non-deep analysis backups, especially episodic or really long movies like LOTR.

That's another reason why I liked it compared to DVD X Copy Xpress. I tried backing up my 24 Season 2 with DVD X Copy and it was pixelated to hell. DVD Shrink is a miracle compared to that with episodic discs. I'm half way through our Buffy the Vampire Slayer seasons, plus I got the Dead Zone & Spongebob Squarepants - all of which look very good, for a copy. Nothing beats originals though - not until dual layer burners are out

I just recoded a movie with DVD Shrink 3 beta 5 today. Would it look any better if I used 3.1 or is it just a hook in to Nero, which I use anyway?

Throw instant copy away now.

I use DVD shrink to reencode, rip, then Nero to burn it to DVD. done.

Get that master copy, then pump them out faster then hollywood!!!
