Has anyone tried burning a series DVD, like 24? I ripped the espisodes with dvddecrypt, open the files on dvdshrink and ran the deep analysis. But afterwards, if I set the titles to automatic, it's still over 7gigs, no where near 4.4 gigs needed.

any suggestions?

Hold down the eject button for 3+ seconds before you insert the disc. That will "unlock" the drive's ripping ability for the next inserted disc. As fast as 12x is possible.
Thanks, that worked fine! Guess I should have read the plextor manual (pages 39-40). Here's the information on speedread from the plextor manual:
To enable:
1) Ensure tray is closed and empty.
2) Press and hold the eject button until the LED blinks green three times.
3) Release the eject button and the tray opens.
4) Insert disk.

Speedread runs at 5x-12x for single layer and 3x-8x for dual layer.

Ejecting a disk or turning off drive power disables speedread and returns to silent operation.

Anyone try to backup Pirates of the Caribbean and end up with subtitles on the screen you can't get rid of? I left english subtitles checked so I guess I i'll uncheck it and try again even though I've never had this happen before.

The instructions I read were to rip using dvddecrypt and then mount that iso with Daemon Toolkit's virtual DVD. Then one applies DVDshrink to strip off the unwanted using Re-author.

you probably tried this but if you haven't

some movies you can't use the remote control to disable subtitles, you have
to go to the movie menu and turn subitles off in the captions part.

Here's one technique I found to split each episode disk into two. http://www.lordsmurf.com/dvdcopy/shrink/dvdshrink.htm . Pretty straightforward, but won't help you if you want to stick to one disk.

I never had problems backing up a dvd except for the 'Traffic : Criterion Collection' edition.

Anyone else have the same problem?

That was one of the guides I used to burn '24', another similar guide was dvddecrypt+dvd2one, but both was able to "shrink" the org. disk to 4.4 gigs. Is it incorrect to think that I can fit the org. disc1 onto a blank dvdr without any visible loss in quality? I thought it was definitely possible.

Considering the quality 'hit' you'd experience with high shrinkage, I, faced with a similar "episodic" DVD decided to spend the extra $1 and split the source DVD to two. It simplifies which saves me time to do other things. All this can be done with DVDShrink and probably others. If you can get it done by simply stripping out the stuff you don't use anyway then there you are.

Thanks for the input, I guess I'll do the same, I wanted it on the same disc, to save the #of discs and well I'm too lazy to have to switch between the cds

I did too and had no problem with subtitles from the remote. I have another question about that movie though.. under main title there's more than 1 listed, in full disk mode. If you want to reauthor to movie only which do you pick?? This is been a major stumbling block for me when there's more than 1 listing under the main movie. I rip using decryptor - shoudl I change the setting there about the multi-angle? I'd like to do more movie only but am aftraid of havinga coaster factory

thanks.

Make sure your using DVDShrink 3.1.3...sounds to me like your using 2.3 with the 'shared combine titles' enabled. I suggest ripping in ISO mode in DVDDecrypter then mounting that iso in daemon tools if you don't want to process it directly from the dvd. Otherwise, make sure you RIP ALL FILES in DVDDecrypter otherwise you'll need to re-rip it.

As for the other question about does dvdshrink burn.....hmmmmm..have you even flipped around in the burn settings to look?
1) use Nero 5.5.10.x or Nero 6.3.x to burn to DVD±R
2) use Nero 5.5.10.x or Nero 6.3.x to make an .nrg image which can be burned with Nero or DVDDecrypter
3) use AutoShrinkISO which creates .iso from dvdshrink video files and burns DVDDecrypter
4) use AutoShrinkISO and burn with CopyToDVD

only #3 is 100% freeware solution but everyone has there personal preferences.

btw 3.1.4 beta 1 is out which contains another DirectX video renderer option: "Built-in Software Renderer". This isn't an official release...only try it out if you have trouble previewing video.

I'm having a problem with DVDShrink3.1.4.
I have 2 dvd burners and I place an episodic dvd in each.
D: is an 411s and
E: is an 811s
I place a mix of say one episode from D: and one from E: into the left panel of dvdshrink, obviousely in re-author mode.
When the ripping stage ends, it searchs for a blank in E:, my designated burner.
I quickly remove the source dvd from E: and insert a blank. It finds it and begins the process. At the end the drawer for E: slides open and a pop-up says I am done, or would I like to continue with that dvd?
I remove the dvd from the open drawer and try to play it on my dvd player and it says it's the wrong kind of disk. I put it back into the dvd drawer and close it and press the button to finish the dvd, but nothing changes, ie. it still won't play in my dvd player, but it will play, and quite nicely on my computer.
Any suggestions? I seem to have less coasters when I use DVDdecrypter to an iso, mount the iso with Daemon Tools and rip using dvdshrink. It's just that I already have Nero, two dvd burners, and I don't want to take more time ripping to an iso.

Ideas, please.

@bupkus...easy not confusing way is rip both episodic dvds to .iso. In daemon tools set # of drives to four (max). Then mount each .iso as a dvd and then in re-author mode in dvdshrink add movie titles from each one. Use the browser in dvd shrink to flip to the next virtual dvd drive.

@mrbass
I'm using decryptor 3.19 and shrink 3.13
I rip all files to my HD then open the files in shrink. In full disk mode, some show more than 1 title under the 'main movie', but if I switch to reauthor, only 1 title is listed under Main Movie, with the other ones listed below, like in Extras. But in the last one I did, they weren't extras like directors comments, but seemed to be part of the movie. I don't know. They are foreign movies so I'm sure not too many other people would have them, to see how it works for them.

Sorry for asking these tech Q's in a Hot deals thread...

Any recommendations on stable freeware DVD playing software? Running the 14 day trial for WinDVD and haven't been happy, it's a little resource intensive for my liking and I've had to kill the process several times when it became unresponsive. I don't need anything fancy that supports DTS or fun stuff like that. Just need to open the DVD for backup and verification purposes.

If I have two dvd burners in one machine, can I rip two dvds at the same time?
I'm thinking I can use DVDDecrypter to create iso files and go from there. It's just that the extra time to create the ISOs is a little too much. I can, however, run one on each of two machines and then network one over to the other if needed in the compilation.

I just tried ripping T3 (for a test rip) and it took 35min! Plus it never bothered to burn it using nero. 35min is a long time and is the same the older version took. What am I doing wrong? My dvd burner is a pioneer dvr-106. Os is xp-home.
