This thread got too long too fast. Does anyone know if Shrink does anything differently than Clone does? CLoneDVD dose all the conversions and compressing AND burns the DVD too. No need for any other program to do anything.

What benefit does Shrink have over this? Anyone know?

THanks.

When i open the files to shrink it does not play it on the preview screen like it does when i use DVDSHRINK2.1. What am i doing wrong? i do see a play and stop button though. but nothing happens when i press them.

Have you tried opening the movie in WinDVD or whatever you use and then trying to back it up? I'm just getting this backing up DVDs but I thought it had something to do w the encryption key. I have gotten the error and opening the movie fixed it.

Few questions:

1. Is Nero 6.x required for integration? I'm still running 5.5 since it does everything I want to do and haven't had a need to upgrade.

2. Does anyone know what the "logical remapping of enabled streams" option does?

3. Typically how long is it taking people to do a deep analysis and encode? I was a little over an hour using a Lite-on 451S 4x drive for each part. Just comparing the encoding times between DVDShrink and DVDXCopy, Shink seems much slower.

Can't do that. It'd be nice though, since I got the LiteOn DivX player for Christmas

to get rid of that message and any other startup screens you don't like, go here.

Too much work That's why I switched to DVD2One and now DVD Shrink.

Should? No. Will? It could. Sorry for each reply being a seperate post, it's easier to keep track for me that way.

According to the release notes:

Version 3.1 Beta 6 - 6 Jan 2004
-------------------------------

Added burning functionality.
Burning is enabled if you have nero 6 installed. It may also work
with Nero version 5, not yet tested.

That's the last specific reference to Nero 5 I see in the notes...

Simple in DVD Decrypter. Just choose Mode -> File, select all the files, and copy them to your drive somewhere in a VIDEO_TS folder. That gives you a DVD on your drive that DVD Shrink can then open by selecting the VIDEO_TS folder. It's extremely easy. I also suggest setting Tools -> Settings... -> File Mode -> On Startup \ Select Files to: "All". When I decrypt a DVD using this, I generally insert the disk, open DVD Decrypter and click the Decrypt button. I'll change the path sometimes if it's a poorly named title "DVD_VIDEO" or something similar. Hope this helps.

Yes, Smartripper with the backup option will work perfectly. This is the option you should use if you use smartripper.
If you use DVDDecyrpter, see the post above.

ok, what do you guys use to fit a multi episode dvd like 24 or sopranos on a dvd-r. Can I just re encode and choose the 4 episodes without the menus and still be able to play of my standalone? I've backed up a few but the quality is still not the best. TIA for any help.

You can't motivate dvdshrink. He's announced he's ceased development (translated for those in Rio Linda...no more features added or feature requests) but he will release new versions only for bugfixes and translations.

If you don't want to buy Nero (no demo will only work for 30days IIRC) you can use AutoShrinkIso which creates an .iso right after dvdshrink encodes the video files then you can, if you wish, have it burn that .iso with DVDDecrypter. This way it's a 100% freeware solution.

I heard somewhere that Nero's DVD compressor actually was developed by/through the DVD Shrink guy. It looks kinda similar, but is definately different. Anyone know if maybe he's going to jump on ship with Nero? That'd just be too cool (granted, not a free solution, but would definately be one of the best CD/DVD packages around).

DVDShrink isn't motivated because if he ever tried to sell the stuff, lawyers would be on his butt like white on rice. DVDXCopy is barely hanging in there now with lawyers begging to sue them.

DVDshrink is the best. Most of the new features I don't see much need but great to have.

Any1 know of a good software to extract only the Audio save it as Wav or mp3 would be great?

I just discovered on how to make 2 DVDs into 1 using DVDShrink. The 2 original DVDs have a lot of crab extra that I don't want and the main movie uses only half of the DVD so I make them into 1 DVD using DVDshrink. Just re-author both 2 original DVDs and remove the extras then save it onto the hard drive in location A. Do the same for the second DVD and save it in location B. Then open A and do a Re-Author, while this Re-author is still open then open B and add to this Re-author. Boom, you have 2 DVDs in 1. With the new revision, the software automatically shrink to fit on the 4.7G space. Awsome. If you remove something, again the software changes to decompress so you won't lose quality. Awsome. Can't ask more then that.

To make 2 DVDs from 1, similar thing and just use the start and stop. Save DVD 1 in A, the use Re-author then use the start/stop to cut how ever you want. And burn it to DVDs. One advice, this stuff take lots of disk space. 4.7G * 3 = 14.1G.

I've been using autoshrinkiso for the last few weeks. This seems to best, least hassle solution yet. I assume that the this new version of dvdshrink will would with it. Does anyone know for sure. Right now I'm using the:

DVDShrink beta.
DVDDecyrpter, and
Imgtool (Nero 6).

All driven by Autoshrinkiso. A few clicks of the mouse and it does itself (start to finish) Don't overlook this slick little tool.

VirtualDub is a free package that does this. But I'm not sure what your source is, if it's a VOB, then VDub won't open it. Rather you need this: VirtualDubMod

Hope that helps, again without knowing your source...

DVDShrink is awesome. I used to use DVD2ONE and DVDXcopy but DVDShink by far is easiest to use. Best part it's FREE!
