Italian job after the analysis recorded as 7.5 gigs.... how do you go about shrinking this so that it will fit onto the DVD?

Thanks

yep, the video will have to be compressed too, but when you put it on auto, it's not as bad.
take out menus/extras/sound (languages) to try and keep the video quality higher.
i believe 70% or greater video quality is optimal.

Whoa, so DVDShrink actually compromises video quality so it doesn't look as good as a legit DVD?

yes, but I don't really think the quality goes down drastically. Most people can't tell.

Hehe, I was wondering because I see an unusually high amount of artifacts on my dvds... and was wondering if it's cuz it's normal on a big monitor (20 inch viewable) CRT... or my old vid card (GeForce 256).... or....

Shut.
Up.

I legally own every single DVD I have in my posession, and I back up every single one I think I may want to hang on to for a long time. I'd hate to lose all my DVDs, especially after the recent thefts in my dorm.

Oh, and in response to the OP:
I've never had any problems using DVD shrink w/the auto setting. Image quality is virtually indistinguishable from that of the original DVD, and you can keep all the extras too, if you like

I wouldn't say most people can't tell.. more of most TVs aren't capable of showing the difference.

I dunno about that one... I have a Toshiba 32AF43 model 32" flat screen tv and I can barely tell the difference between the original DVD and its backup. Even then the only difference I can really see is in areas on the screen that are out-of-focus which tend to be a little pixelated/digitized whereas the original is not as much so.
Still, the difference is small and only noticable when actually looking for it.

the backed up DVD at a high compression level looks a little distored during action scenes when theres a lot of movement

i backed up my copy of italian job and i'd say it looks really close to the original. would not be able to see the difference unless i had 2 movies playing at the same time for side by side comparison.

That's right, because DVDs are never lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed

Especially when every single friend I have in my dorm considers my collection their personal video library, from which they can borrow any time. I don't have a problem with that either, BECAUSE I BACK UP MY DVDS!!!!!

Meh, no biggie. I trust my friends enough to borrow my DVDs without destroying them (although it's bound to happen at some point). When that does happen, then I'll switch to letting them borrow the backups instead.

DVD Shrink is awesome, & free

I have kids & they're a little hard on DVD's, rather than be anal & scream @ them, they get a copy of their favorite DVD to destroy for a whole $1.

If you want the best quality possible you can always split it on 2 dvd.

Most image compression done by DVDShrink would only be noticeable on larger, widescreen TV's (36" and greater) running in progressive scan.

If the compression is minor 5%-10% no ones going to notice on any size screen. Finding Nemo already had compression artifacts on the retail DVD, not the fault of shrink or any other software. Dump the extras, extra sound tracks and the menus and it'll be fine. Movies like Pearl Harbor, LOTR, Gladiator, etc would look bad because you'd be compressing too much but for 98% of the titles out there, DVDShrink is just fine.

Does DVD XCOPY Platinum or whatever compress better? They brag about some high tech compression process I believe...

#2...STFU, there are plenty of reasons for backing up dvds.

copying your dvds is great for people who have dvd players in their cars.
