I have dvdxcopy express or something and it doesn't give you any options, I think this might, but I would go with bjamm2, save yourself some money and just use DVDShrink, you could probably find more info on everything here

Same here. I own DVDXCopy Platinum. But the one thing it does that DVDShrink doesn't is allow a dual-layer disk to be split across two single-layer disks without any recompression. It tries to organize the "special features" on one disk with most of the movie on the other and if you click on a menu that leads something on the other disk, a "please insert disk" screen is displayed.

I don't need the menu fixups, but it would be nice if DVDShrink could split video instead of just recompressing it.

Well, it is a rip-off in the sense that you can do for free what DVDXCopy does for a $ cost. And the free stuff is pretty much as easy to use. Just hit http://www.doom9.org/ for all the info you need on copying DVDs. I use DVD-Decrypt and DVDShrink to copy mine, now, as the money I spent on DVDXCopy was wasted since the program doesn't work on my system and tech support made no effort to help (other than to tell me my clock must be set wrong).

I agree, there are so many FREE applications out there, you'd be dumb to spend money on a retail product. If you feel like spending money, send donations to the free software developers.

I use DVDfab for splitting movies onto two DVDs, they also recompress just like DVDShring as well as rip just the movie only and it only cost $39.95

That's where DVDFab steps in. Use DVDShrink for a copy down to 1 disk and DVDFab for a full copy onto 2 disks. Both are free.

I have used the DVDXCopy products since they debuted - XCopy, Xpress, Platinum - you name it. But now I only use DVDShrink and DVDFab. DVDShrink has a "deep analysis" feature that allows dynamic compression based on frame-by-frame content. Also, DVDXCopy puts on a nag screen that stays up for 20 seconds or so saying that the disc is a backup.

I did my own test where I compressed a DVD using DVDShrink and another using DVDXCopy and wrote each to a DVD+RW. I labeled the discs, put them in my carousel multi-disc player without looking at which was where, spun the carousel a few times and tried to see if I could tell a difference between the discs w.r.t. picture quality. I could tell a distinct difference at 70% compression even on my 22" non-HD TV and the superior picture each time was from the DVDShrink disc. For those curious, I used Infoedit and VOBrator to get rid of DVDXCopy's nag screen such that it wasn't obvious when I played them which program made the disc.

But the main reason that I will never go back to DVDXCopy is that they put a unique identifier on each backup DVD that identifies the user. I found it offensive that I was one of the first users who supported the company and did not know of it. Perhaps it was mentioned in the license small print.

yup, I've used DVDfab to split ~15 DVD-9's across 2 DVD-R's. Looks great. Plays on my Sony standalone perfectly.

I agree that DVD Shrink and DVD Fab are the two best free programs and nearly all you need. I also use DVD Decryptor to do straight .iso reads when the DVD is under 4.7GB and can fit on one blank.

I also was a heavy DVD XCopy user. Platinum was just a desperate attempt to extend the life cycle of an already obsolescent product. Most of the promised new features that were to distinguish it from the original software are grayed out and don't even work.

The only thing any DVDXCopy software is good for currently is to split a dual-layer DVD across two single-layer blanks, as has already been pointed out.

However, even in this limited application, you still have to deal with the really annoying "DVD-COPY" splash screen. I would definitely try a different product, you will almost certainly save money and be happier.

YMMV!

I have an original dvdxcopy standard, it only takes the movie and puts it on dvd with no menu's, for my personal use it does what I want it to do, but the new versions don't let you copy encripted dvds, you'll still need to use the free dvd ripper dvdshrink nero setup to make full copys.
