Hi All,
Here's a problem I'm having with my PC that has had me scratching my head for a couple days now.
Problem:
Purchased the 17" flat panel NEC LCD1735NXM monitor a couple weeks ago and hooked it up to my custom built PC using the included VGA cable. My video card is a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. Works perfectly with this set up. However, a couple days ago, I bought a 9' RCA DVI-D cable and connected it. The input on my monitor is DVI-D and the Radeon 9600 Pro is DVI-I. Now, everytime I go to do a soft shut down in Windows XP, the PC goes through all the motions of shutting down (right down to the fans shutting off) and then it boots right back up. This happens with the soft shut down and if I press the power button. If I hold the power button down long enough, the PC does eventually shut down completely. Now this is the strange part. If I turn off the monitor before doing a soft shut down, the PC will actually turn off with no problem.
Some of the things I have tried are reinstalling drivers for the 9600 and for the monitor. I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Misc. Information about my PC:
- Antec SLK2600AMB case including 300W SmartPower PSU
- P4 2.53 stock speed
- Soyo SY-P4I865PE Plus DRAGON 2 v1.0 (Prescott-Ready)
- 2x256 Corsair Twinx 3200 LL
Thanks in advance for all your help.
- Steve
