I am just wondering, What is the maxium length that a DVI cable can be ?

I am thinking of linking one of my 1680 x 1050 res flat panels with a 30 foot cable. Is this possible. Will a need special cables?

You'll need some repeaters in there cause that's pretty freakin far.

You can get Fiber Optic DVI cable lengths to 495' supporting 1080p without applifiers if you have the money. Link They have a variety of DVI cables, so there should be something to work for you.

Here's a 10meter cableLink with a disclaimer:Note: DVI-D (digital) has a length limitation of 5 meters. Although there are some applications where longer cables are applicable, these are the exception rather than the rule. If you have a need for a digital DVI length longer than 5 meters, please consult your hardware manufacturer to confirm compatibility. We cannot guarantee a quality image beyond 5 meters.

What are you trying to do? Why put the monitor 30 feet from the rig?

Nope, I was just considering putting my PC case on the other side of the room while keeping Flat Panel, KB Mouse at the same location.... (keeps noise down, tidies the place up)

I just measured the actually distance which the cable run will have to be.. It will have to be 20 feet long (not 30feet)...

My big questions are..
1: 20 foot USB Cable into a Powered USB hub? is that gonna work (I think so)

2: Front Channel Peaker Cables at 20 feet ( This shouldn't be a problem)

3: DVI cable at 20 Feet..( I know I am not going to get away with 30 feet...how about 20 feet)

4: Last of all, does putting a sub woofer next to your PC Tower have any adverse effects?

Your subwoofer might not be magnetically shielded, and should not be placed right beside a PC Tower. Give it at least a few feet clearance from the Tower and/or other electronic devices IMO.

I went to the local computer store and got a 7m (21 foot) DVI-D to DVI-D cable for ~ 18 bucks..

Currently at 1024 x 768. I don't notice any issues yet. However, my real test is when my new LCD monitor arrives.

However, I would like to ask, what are symptom of my cable being too long.

have u got any info about kvms (keyboard video mouse sound).
They are some kind of hubs where u plug all peripherals and they are routed along an unique cable to the source wich can be placed hundreds feets away even more.

I tell u because i planned the same thing like u does, to put tower away and not in same room, i wanted to move it to another room using a preinstalled tube that goes along inside my ceiling to another place. The only thing u have to worry about is that kvms have a limit on what max resoluution on video they can feed u.
