DVI compatibilty on HDTV televisions

I'm looking into buying a HDTV television with an DVI connector. Can the Radeon 8500 output an signal that is compatible with HDTV directly to the television? Can this be done without use of an adapter by using the DVI connector on the video card? Any info on this subject would be helpful. Thank-You

It works, but you won't get a picture from the 8500 until Windows loads. With a GF4 (maybe all NVidia cards with DVI?), you can see the post and boot up process too.

Windows see DVI/HDCP as a "Plug and Play Digital Monitor".

Thanks for the info.....I heard the DVI to component adapter for Radeon cards has an problem with overscan (parts of the screen are outside the viewable area). Does using a DVI to DVI connection eliminate this problem? Thank!!!

I too would like to hear about anybody's success connecting their video card to an HDTV through DVI or even s-video. Was the graphic quality there? What about resolution? I'm looking to build a system in the near future with a Radeon 9700 Pro but I want a card with good TV out. I think that dongle crest5 was describing would work on the 9700 Pro but I'm not sure. Anybody out there tried this before? Thanks!
