I have an HIS Radeon 4870 1GB video card.
I used the Wikipedia article on DVI to determine which plugs I had.
My video card two DVI-I dual link female plugs.
I just bought a 26" Asus VK266H Monitor ($370 from Newegg!). It has a single DVI-D dual link female plug. I'm running at the native resolution of 1900x1200.
I'm using the DVI cable that came with my last monitor, which appears to be a DVD-D single link.
It's my understanding that the main use of dual link is supporting very high resolutions (higher than my 1900x1200).
However, I'm also led to believe that I could possibly run at a higher refresh rate (75 hz versus 60 hz). The Catalyst control center indicates that the monitor reports a maximum of 75 hz, the drop down for frequency selection doesn't go higher than 60 hz.
It seems that this monitor is a little bit more straining on my eyes than my previous 22" (I've already turned the brightness down from 70 to 60).
So the questions are: if I bought a DVD-D dual link cable, would I be able to run my monitor on dual? If so, would I be able to get 75 Mhz? And if so, would that make any difference (I know that higher frequency, I.e. 85Mhz or higher was important on CRT monitors, but don't know about LCD monitors).
