Now guys,

I am about to get a benq fp767, an 16ms 17 incher...

But it doesn't have DVI, and I know all the threads have said it's a really noticeable improvement to have dvi...

But is it really worth it to pay $100 extra for an 17 inch lcd with 20ms and dvi?

Thanks

I'll assume your paying $359 for it. The image quality is definately better I would go with the hitachi (16ms not 20ms) but like you said its $100 more.

Go for the NEC 1760V for $399 from newegg. No DVI, but not worth the extra hundred bucks to get it.

Unless you have a DVI monitor and an analog monitor side by side, you won't notice you're missing anything.

Thanks nebor and fredtam, I'll work out whether I have enough money for the dvi connection otherwise I'll buy the analog one...

The reason why I asked this question is because one of anand's own editor (they are wearing a white anandtech shirt for their icon) said that the difference is night and day...

it's in here somewhere.

Yeah, there's this Kris guy who thinks he's some sort of LCD master.... I don't even think he has an LCD monitor, just comes on here and spews a bunch of garbage. Kris Suzuki or something. Ignore him.... Or maybe ignore me. One of us an expert anyways.

fwiw, i have seen quite dramatic differences between dvi and vga inputs on lcd screens. it varries between pretty close to quite dramatic depending on the lcd monitor and associated hardware.
i actually wont get a non dvi lcd monitor now. but that's just my opinion.

I tend to agree with the night and day thing.

My Samsung 191T looks massively worse if I don't use the DVI. I would NEVER get an LCD that wasn't DVI.

when you say massively worse, do you mean worse as in going-from-geforce2mx-to-radeon-9800xt kinda worse, or just going-from-using-rgb-rather-than-dvdinput kinda worse...

Cause I think I can live with the second one...
And also: is just an improvement over brightness and contrast, or do you see less ghosting, and shadowing?

Any input would be greatly appreciated

It doesn't help ghosting or much else. Newer monitors have better circuitry for the analog connectors, so there's not as huge a difference.

The NEC Nebor mentioned uses the same panel as the Hitachi I mentioned earlier. The Hitachi is only $50 more and has dvi.

If I were going LCD id save up for a DVI connection... why go LCD if you arent totalling using the technology? Id rather spend that 400$ on a kick ass CRT. Get DVI

And the NEC 1760NX is the same monitor w/ DVI. Also for like $50 or $80 more.

I`ve to agree,I also own a 191T and you can see the difference between DVI and analog mode,DVI is worth the extra IMHO if you can afford it.

I look at it as "Oh my heck that is so blurry" kind of worse. Colors aren't as sharp, things are just plain not as crisp. It's not a "barely noticeable" thing.
