DVI?? VIVO??? WHAT?????

Juat lookong through the MSY price list, I noticed a number of video cards with abbreviations of DVI or VIVO.

I was looking at getting a Leadtek 256mb 6800GS (neither VIVO or DVI)...but then it occurred to me...what the heck are VIVO and DVI, and how should I take them into consideration?

Building an AMD x2 3800 1gb RAM system, 19" or 17" LCD monitor (probably DVI, not sure yet) and a 19" CRT....photoshop and some gaming.

If you don't know what DVI and VIVO stand for, then I'm guessing you don't care whether or not your video card supports them.
Incidentally, DVI is the connection that some LCD monitors use (CRT monitors use D-Sub, which ALL video cards support, so that won't be a problem for you.) Also, I think you should consider looking into the X800GTO, X800GTO2, and X800XL, all of which are similar in price to the 6800 GS, and may be faster in performance. You are looking into building a PCI-X system, right?

Yeah, PCIe, figure that makes the most sense.

Yeah, I should've searched for it myself, my apologies - I'm so tired it never even occurred to me...lol

So I'm guessing it'd be a waste of money getting a DVI monitor and a graphics card without DVI, correct?

Just had a look into VIVO a bit....can't really see much benefit to it......

Recording off the video out cable off a video camera maybe....I think that would be about it, can't see much other use for it...and I think modern cameras have USB cables anyway

So I'm not going to worry too much about it

Pretty much all video cards these days support DVI, and most have two DVI outs and come with adapters for VGA, so that you can use two DVI or two VGA monitors, or one of each.

if your wanting a photoshop/gaming :! then i highly recommend a X1800GTO when comes out this month for $249 or Wait for price drop and buy a x1800XT or X1900XT

You will want the supper IQ of ATI and Supper AA is awesome for gaming

ohh you live in Australia :! MSY is cheap ass sydney shop that i never never buy from because of the worst customer service ever :!
