btw, who the h3ll is www.copperbox.com? I couldn't find them on resellerratings.com?

Since DVICO offered the first software based HDTV decoder. It takes some work to get going (I have the first generation Fusion) but it works great once you get the kinks out. If you have the money, it's better to go with the MyHD card

Copperbox serves the HTPC enthusiast. These other great sites that serve this market as well:

Would watching HDTV be enjoyable on a dual Dell 2001FP setup @ 1600x1200? I'm curious to know if this thing is worth the live stream, or is it just for video archival purposes?

It's still the same price.
Just click on the link then add to cart. Don't go to the description page to add to cart or the price is $159

Seems like a great deal, but you need a system to back it up...I dunno if my 1.33 ghz athlon thunderbird would be able to manage it. I've tried their software out before and it was lagging a bit, maybe they've made improvements since then.

what will the qam version do that this doesn't?

the qam version will let you display dtv from digital cable? but it says non encrypted qam compliant. don't most cable companies encrypt dtv and hdtv material such as hdnet, discovery hd, fox hdtv, abc, nbc, cbs hdtv etc.?

This is a *really* good deal on a HDTV tuner for your PC. The QAM version adds the ability to tune UNENCRYPTED digital cable channels. Since 90% of all D-CATV is encrypted, the QAM version is only necessary for those who cannot receive over-the-air HD signals. If anything, you'll likely only get the HD channels you'd be receiving via an antanna. Don't get me wrong - the ability to receive QAM is great, but for $120, this is AFAIK the cheapest any HD-capable tuner has ever been.

One thing to note: this card does not have an integrated MPEG2 decoder chip; instead, it relies on a DXVA accelerated software decoder. This works fine on most "modern" PCs and graphics cards (i.e. ATI RADEON-class, and its competitors), but you can download a test program to try-before-you-buy.

Copperbox is a well-known retailer on some of the HD PC boards, such as the AVS Forum. Though their return/repair policy is slightly harsh, they typically get good reviews.

In my case I need to use the Cablevision-supplied HDTV receiver. Does that mean even with this card I'm *not* going to be able to record the TS stream digitally? In other word, it can only record the bastardized analog HDTV signal that comes off the receiver?

If you're running an online store at least put some damn effort into making your site half decent. That site is disgusting.
