i have a 2 year old compaq presario 1260 laptop. specs are AMD K6-2 333mhz, 160MB Ram, 4GB harddrive, 24x cd-rom, 12.1 active TFT and some other stuff. anyways first obvious problem, my LCD screen doesnt work if it is at an angle greater than 90 degrees with the keyboard. is it just a loose wiring problem that can be fixed somewhat cheap? second, i did a fresh install of windows Me to make sure programs werent the culprit but even then, my laptop likes to crash after being idle for no reason. it will either be a horrible blue screen or some kernel or dll crashed and all i can do is click ok and it just keeps appearing and appearing. i thought maybe it was bad RAM so i took out the 128MB SODIMM (32 MB is built-in) and it still does the same thing. can the motherboard be defective or something? once i had windows Me crash after tilting the lcd past 90 degrees coz it said i removed a hardware of some sort. also, i have this POS PCMCIA network card that no longer even gets detected by the laptop at even after installing the drivers etc. is the pcmcia slot dead too? i'm thinking this cause of all these problems could have been usage related. last year while having T3 connection, i basically never turned off my laptop for days at a time. maybe this shortened the specs of the computer out of its normal lifetime. is this the probable cause?
