howlongtobeat claims 12 hours for main story. The massive variance between that and completionist tells me there is a ton of worthless filler, but taken as a 12 hour single player game that isn't bad.

Well to get the good weapons and other blueprints you would need to do some of those quests. I don't think the main story is enough to get you all the decent items that will help you out later.

Just finished the prologue and I really like the game so far.

One thing though, normal zombies are just a bunch of slow idiots for now, not that frightening...but those blister-covered ones don't look that fun to meet...

I also thought the game would be more beautiful. It's not ugly but that grainy effect and the blurry long distance details are a bit meh...

Anyways, runs awesome on my PC with everything at max except shadows on High I think and motion blur OFF.

You can probably turn off distortion for grainy effect in the options. I'm surprised the console version doesn't have that in there, some games do like watchdogs had an option for it on the ps4.

Also, wait until you get more into the story you are going to meet the big fireman guys, volatiles, and some crazy spitter zombie that comes out in areas when you are making too much noise even in the day time.

since the game has RPG elements, worthless filler content is based on whether you enjoy the base gameplay or not

if you do, then you're leveling up and gaining skills / abilities while doing filler content

if you don't, then you need story to help continuing through content

I finished campaign last night, Steam states game play was around 18 hours but I know I left the game running while I was out and about for ~3 hours or so. I would assume with the other filler material their time Is about right.

Just got the game from a friend as a gift for helping him move this weekend.

Did a short benchmark with FRAPS indoor. 2560x1440, nvidia settings off, FSAA off, draw distance max. High settings.

Avg: 51.617 - Min: 43 - Max: 63

i got it for the ps4 and i wish it was a little more crisp on the graphics, im sure on pc it could look a lot lot better, but at least it runs perfectly on the console.

i did the prologue, the game is cool, today i hope i can start playing it with some friends in coop (cause i needed to do the prologue to unlock coop mode), i wish the parkour elements were more fluid but im still hoping that is because im low lvl. the caracter takes quite a long time to climb edges, i was hoping something more mirror edgy, but i will wait to see if unlocking perks in agility make that better

It doesn't quite get to mirrors edge levels, but it does get better when you upgrade your skills. You get faster at everything.

Your character gets a lot better once you unlock more perks in your upgrade menu for agility. I'm also on ps4 my Id is Selayan if you want to do some co op. I'm about 15% I think maybe more so I can help you do the side quests I've already finished.

I'm enjoying the co-op aspect of this game. I was going to give up on it, but tooling around with friends in this game adds more "fun factor" in.
I will admit that in order for your character to not die as much you will need to level up quite a bit. My friend is telling me that the game hits its stride about 50% in.

Tried to force CF with 1x1 optimized. Got these results indoor and no visual artifacts:

Frames: 4899 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 81.650 - Min: 53 - Max: 126

that's 60% more than without. Yay!

It's fun so far. In jumping around, though, I just got stuck on a boat model and couldn't move. I couldn't get unstuck so I quit and reloaded my game hoping the game would check player location during the load but the game crashed to desktop. I'm skeerd. I don't want to have to start all over.

game is fun. but i bluescreened exiting an area and my save got corrupted. dont think ill be playing it anymore. i searched and this seems to be a recurring problem. sad that they implemented a draconian auto-save feature, and that the entire game experience can be destroyed by one crash.

I've heard about this happening on console too when you reach about 22%. But since I've played it, I've noticed there have been a few patches. I haven't played since the patches either.

This game is fantastic. I'm playing it entirely in coop with my usual coop partner (played Saints Row 3 & 4, Far Cry 4 and Borderlands 1 & 2 together,) and it's so much fun. The parkour & scavenging makes each trip across the map engaging and interesting. We're 17 hours in and only 28% through the story. The side quests are super fun and interesting (funny how everything needs to be done at night.) This could be GOTY material. Well worth the $80 I paid for it.

I definitely enjoyed the game overall. According to Steam, I've been playing for 35 hours, and I'm at 93% completion now (about to go into the game finale). I've done a decent number of side quests, but definitely not all of them.

For the most part, the parkour works very well (as long as you remember the rule 'always keep looking at the ledge that you want to climb up onto').

The difficulty curve for the game is a bit strange - it starts out pretty difficult (mostly because the early weapons are pretty primitive and break easily), and there's no difficulty setting either. Once you hit 60% or 70% completion, if you've done a decent job upgrading skills and collecting weapon blueprints, it gets pretty easy (you can take on 2 - 3 nighttime zombies at once without a problem).

I got it on GreenManGaming for $45, and think it was worth it. So far none of the DLC I've read about that's coming out for it sounds worth it for me, but I've mostly been playing singleplayer only.

I'm around level 12 in all my skills, and nighttime zombies are still a serious threat. My partner and I can take them down working together with double barrel shotguns, but even then we do it right around the safe zone. That's an excellent way to farm XP btw, just kill night monsters outside the safe zone all night. You get great XP and loot from killing them, plus you get a ton of points for "surviving the night."

But I agree with you about the general difficulty curve. At first, regular zombies are fairly threatening, and it's easy to get overrun by them. Then you just worry about "virals" that come when you make too much noise. I'm to the point where the only thing that concerns me are surprise bombers and the volatiles at night. Weapons also become more more durable with more repairs, and most weapons can 1-shot regular zombies & virals.

My friend gave me a koreak machete and you can use that on the night zombies if you stun them with the UV light. I'm really early still, about 18% I think and finished all the side quests that were available at the tower.

To get the blueprints for the machete you climb on top of the person and have to kick this box over 70 times.

I still avoid going out at night because those night zombies can be a pain once they all start chasing you.

This game is awesome ! GOTY material in my book. I did wait a couple weeks to play it so they could get some patches out.

I finished the game. I thought it was a lot of fun, but too many poor aspects to make it GOTY material or even a "great" game.

Probably rate it a solid B. 8.4/10 or so.

We have GTA5 and The Witcher 3 coming. I hope those games will be even better than DL.

But to be honest, I'm having more fun with DL than I had with any game since 2011. (Skyrim and The Witcher 2 released in 2011). Excellent game.

BTW, did anyone see QR-codes in the game ? Like this one ? They lead to this website.

I'm just past the night mission where you have to turn on some electrical plant switches and activate the thing at night. It was my first encounter with the Nightmares...FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!

Now I understand what night missions are, dammit I almost got to go shower twice yesterday...

I'm still not that far in but I now have drops that you have to grab before the enemy and I just met Rais. Great game so far.

I also got a bit more far in the skill trees and really enjoy the skills that make weapons more durable, the one that have a high chance of not spending a repair chance and the skills that let you jump, run and fight more harder and longer.

I also just found my first gun...but i'm not sure if I want to keep it or give it to the guy in the tower...
